Job Summary:

The Penobscot Nation is seeking a Teen Center Counselor who is responsible for the development and implementation of teen programs such as college preparation, sports, cultural activities, prevention skills/training, and educational activities. The Teen Center Counselors will provide activities in a clean, safe environment and promote a healthy lifestyle. They will also be responsible for gathering attendance records, report any issues to the Teen Counselor Lead carrying out any prevention programs or partnerships with any other Tribal Departments. Teen Center employees are mandated reporters of suspected abuse and/or neglect.

Qualifications Required:

• High school Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum age of 18 years old is required.
• First Aid and CPR required or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire date.
• Experience working with teens preferred.
• Experience in coordinating activities, conducting assessments and collaborating with teens as well as communities preferred.
• Background check, criminal record check and fingerprinting required.
• General knowledge or willingness to gain knowledge in areas, such as Teen development, suicide prevention, substance abuse, child abuse/neglect, domestic violence/family violence, prevention programming and any other Teen related issues.
• This person must have o 1) Valid Driver's license. o 2) successfully complete background/fingerprinting check. o 3) Attend trainings and workshops as necessary. o 4) Available to work evening and weekend hours.

Policies and Procedures Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• To assist in the development, scheduling and implementation of Teen activities effectively and safely
• Take attendance, report on general program attendance and Teen event attendance, prepare budgets for activities and develop program plans
• Assist with work and develop programs to meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of teens
• Be able to communicate appropriately and effectively with teens, parents and community
• Work collaboratively with the Teen Counselor Lead in carrying out activities
• Monitor the use of Teen equipment and facilities, take inventory
• Assist in developmental educational and preventative activities for teens
• To collaborate when appropriate and necessary with other Tribal Departments as well as other Tribes
• To assist in the development of mentoring opportunities for teens
• To assist in recruiting appropriate volunteers/mentors for teens
• To assist in carrying out Teen Center needs assessments and program satisfaction surveys
• Maintain record of incident reports
• Meet weekly for Supervision and team meetings
• Complete yearly professional training modules for the Boys and Girls Club
• Assist in Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP)/ Summer Food Program reporting, shopping and preparing meals
• Complete yearly professional training in behavior, health, bullying, and positive relationships with youth
• Yearly training in mandated reporting
• Training in cultural activities and programs through the cultural training the trainer workshops
• Yearly training in CPR and First Aid
• Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Penobscot Nation goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
• Conforms to acceptable attendance/punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
• Performs other duties as assigned as required.

Physical Demands/Conditions/Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, run, reach overhead, grasp, push, climb, pull, use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or equipment. The employee must be able to work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
