The Special Education teacher will be responsible for providing instruction and support to students in grades K-5. This role includes developing and implementing legally required federal documentation, known as the Individualized Education Program (IEP), which outlines each student's goals, accommodations, and necessary support. These goals may address both academic and behavioral needs. The teacher will provide instruction to ensure students can meaningfully access the curriculum and make progress toward grade-level standards and expectations.JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or higher Valid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificate Meet requirements for teaching Special Education (CI, EI, LD) at the elementary level Familiarity with special education procedures, including the development, implementation and assessment of IEPs and Behavior Support Plans Experience in educating students who qualify for special education services/programming Knowledge and understand of state, local and federal regulations and policies affecting special education Organization and time management skills Lifelong learner with a collaborative spiritPREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies Experience working with proposed age group Experience using a student information system and/or other type of databaseSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Build trust and confidence with students Teach district approved curriculum Plan curriculum, lessons and special education programs and teaching methods, utilizing courses of study and/or grade level expectations adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities Maintain the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes; encourage good citizenship Instruct individuals and groups on special education skill areas Monitor student progress in and outside of the classroom Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determine goals, objectives and directions Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, email, conferences, etc. Prepare report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records and other forms Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities Participate in curriculum development programs and in faculty committees Participate in building special education committee meetings Administer testing evaluations Read and be familiar with the School Student Handbook and Policy Manual of Marshall Public Schools; strict compliance with all rules, regulations and policies is required Meet all contractual obligations as outlined in the Marshall Teachers' Association Master Agreement Demonstrate an understanding of the district's mission, vision and strategic priorities and actively works to advance them through daily practice and professional conduct Contributes to the culture and climate of the district by modeling its core values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment and serving as a committed representative of the district's identity and purpose in all interactions with students, families, staff and the broader community Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the building principalSALARY:
