Job Description

General Statement of Duties Assists the Director of General Services in the administration of the agency, overseeing the activities of Support Services; does related work as required. Essential Duties Henrico County's Department of General Services is seeking an Assistant Director to lead its capital projects portfolio, more than 30 active projects with a combined value exceeding $50 million. This is a senior leadership role responsible for keeping projects on schedule, on budget, and aligned with the County's strategic priorities, while serving as the designated backup to the Director of General Services.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Provide direct oversight and management of a capital improvement program of 30+ active projects valued at more than $50 million Keep projects on schedule and within budget while aligning them with County priorities Coordinate effectively with stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and user departments Serve as the primary liaison between the Capital Projects and Operations Divisions Ensure smooth coordination for projects affecting occupied facilities, building systems, and operational continuity Guide the transition of projects from design and construction into long-term operation and maintenance, minimizing disruption to County services Serve as the designated backup to the Director, providing leadership continuity during the Director's absence Oversee the activities of Support Services within the department
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of administration, operations, and management Proven skill in leading and supervising others Strong knowledge of modern office administration Skill in negotiation and the ability to work effectively with County agencies, vendors, and contractors Ability to collect and analyze data and apply it to short- and long-range planning Sound fiscal management skills and professional judgment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Additional Information Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements Four (4) year degree in public or business administration, and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in support services administration, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
