Job Description
About the Position Platinum Digestive Health is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Collections Specialist to join our medical billing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with medical claims, insurance follow-up, denials, accounts receivable, and collections , with preference given to candidates who have experience working in a Gastroenterology practice . This position will be responsible for managing outstanding accounts, identifying payment issues, resolving denied and underpaid claims, and working with insurance companies to maximize reimbursement. Key Responsibilities Follow up on outstanding insurance claims and accounts receivable. Review unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims to determine the reason for non-payment. Contact insurance companies regarding claim status, denials, eligibility, authorizations, and payment issues. Correct and resubmit claims when appropriate. Research and resolve billing discrepancies and payment posting issues. Review EOBs/ERAs and identify incorrect payments, denials, contractual adjustments, and patient responsibility. Submit appeals and reconsiderations for denied or incorrectly processed claims. Monitor aging accounts and prioritize follow-up based on balance and age. Maintain accurate documentation of all collection and claim follow-up activity. Work with clinical and front-office staff to obtain missing information needed for claim resolution. Identify recurring denial trends and communicate issues to management. Assist with improving the practice's overall collection rate and reducing outstanding A/R. Review payer-specific billing requirements and ensure claims are submitted correctly. Work assigned A/R reports and meet productivity and collection goals. Maintain patient and insurance information in accordance with HIPAA and company policies. Preferred Experience Gastroenterology billing experience strongly preferred. Experience with GI procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, anesthesia, and related procedure coding is a plus. Experience working with Medicare, Medi-Cal, commercial insurance, HMOs, PPOs, and IPAs. Experience with insurance denials and appeals. Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, modifiers, and Place of Service codes. Experience with hospital/inpatient, outpatient, and office-based claims is a plus. Experience with gGastro or another gastroenterology practice management/EHR system is highly preferred. Qualifications 2+ years of medical billing, insurance follow-up, or collections experience preferred. Strong knowledge of medical insurance billing and reimbursement processes. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to research claims and determine appropriate next steps independently. Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines. Comfortable communicating with insurance representatives and resolving complex billing issues. Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a billing team. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who doesn't just work an A/R list—they know how to figure out why a claim has not paid and what needs to be done to get it paid. We are looking for someone who is persistent, organized, analytical, and comfortable taking ownership of outstanding accounts from initial follow-up through resolution. Pay:
