Job Description

Northern Berkshire Pediatrics is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to become an integral member of our small but mighty Billing Team, where every member plays an important role in ensuring accurate billing, timely reimbursement, and exceptional service to our patients and families. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of medical billing processes, insurance requirements, and reimbursement practices to support the continued delivery of high-quality pediatric care. The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively as part of the Billing Team. Responsibilities include maintaining patient billing accounts; managing incoming and outgoing payments from patients and insurers; communicating with patients regarding outstanding balances; billing insurance and processing payments; documenting each step in the billing process; maintaining patient information in our billing software database and EMR; investigating system errors; and pursuing denied claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
Summary of Job Duties :
Verify patient information ensuring complete and accurate registration, and current insurance and eligibility Maintain the accuracy of all Behavioral Health Account registrations Create and submit claims to insurance companies, ensuring accuracy and completeness Follow up on unpaid claims, initiate appeals, and resolve denial instances Communicate with insurance companies for updates on claim status or to clarify billing details Print weekly statements for collection accounts, follow up on patients' outstanding balances, and make collection calls as necessary Navigate and maintain accurate, timely and complete documentation in the EMR and billing software Answer patient inquiries about bills, set up payment plans, and process and post payments to patient accounts Assist the Lead Biller with auditing monthly insurance reports Communicate and collaborate with providers and the clinical team on patient claims and billing issues Daily processing of incoming department mail Stay updated on healthcare regulations, medical terminology, and coding practices Cross-train and serve as a backup for other billing department functions as needed
Qualifications:
At least 2 years of medical billing experience in a physician practice or healthcare setting Excellent computer, organizational, communication, and customer service skills Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, small-team environment
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
