Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support a healthcare organization in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who understands the full billing cycle, works confidently with insurance carriers, and can resolve claim issues with accuracy and professionalism. The person in this role will help maintain timely reimbursement, support patients with billing questions, and contribute to efficient revenue cycle operations.
Responsibilities:
Review explanation of benefits documents to confirm payment accuracy, recognize reimbursement discrepancies, and highlight recurring issues for leadership awareness. Verify insurance coverage and confirm authorization details before billing activity is completed to help reduce preventable claim issues. Research claim denials through payer representatives and online payer systems, correct billing information, and resubmit claims within required timelines. Perform insurance re-verification as needed, rebill claims to updated carriers, and transfer balances to patients when coverage does not apply. Handle incoming correspondence from third-party payers, including adjustments, refund activity, and account updates, with strong attention to detail. Stay informed on insurer policy revisions, payer notices, and broader industry developments that may affect billing practices. Communicate professionally with patients to address billing-related questions and provide clear follow-up on account status. Recommend workflow enhancements that improve billing accuracy, reduce delays, and support stronger team performance. Requirements - At least 3 years of experience in medical billing within a healthcare, hospital, or related clinical setting. Working knowledge of insurance verification and authorization processes across multiple payers. Experience interpreting explanation of benefits statements and using that information to resolve reimbursement issues. Familiarity with medical claims processing, claim corrections, and denial follow-up procedures. Understanding of medical coding, collections activity, and healthcare billing terminology. Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with payers, patients, and internal stakeholders.
