Practice Revenue Management Inc

Bilingual Patient Billing Specialist

Entry-Level JobVerifiedNo experience needed

Job Description

We're hiring a Bilingual Patient Billing Specialist in Brentwood, NY. No medical billing experience required — we train you. Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM-8:30 PM, on-site. $20/hour during training, $23-$25/hour once you're handling calls independently. When someone gets a medical bill they don't understand, they call us. Your job is to pick up that phone and help them make sense of it — calmly, clearly, and in whichever language they're most comfortable speaking, English or Spanish. About UControl Billing UControl Billing (Practice Revenue Management Inc.) is a medical billing and revenue cycle management company headquartered in Brentwood, about five minutes from the Grant Campus. Since 2019 we have managed billing, coding, credentialing, and accounts receivable for healthcare practices across all 50 states. We are HIPAA compliant, ISO 9001:2015 certified, and a New York State certified Minority Business Enterprise. Several members of our team started in entry-level roles and now manage client accounts. We hire people who want to build a career, not just take a job. What You'll Do Answer inbound patient calls about statements, balances, and insurance coverage — in English and Spanish Explain deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and EOBs in plain language patients actually understand Help patients set up payment arrangements and take payments over the phone Follow up with patients who have open balances or unanswered questions Document each call accurately in our billing and practice management systems Route insurance, claim, and denial questions to the right internal team Protect patient privacy and follow HIPAA requirements on every call Most of your day is inbound patient support. This is a help desk role, not a sales role. What We're Looking For Able to speak English and Spanish comfortably. A significant portion of the patients we serve are Spanish-speaking, and this role handles those calls directly, without an interpreter. Your spoken Spanish will be assessed in the interview through a short conversation. Written Spanish is not required — all documentation is in English. A calm, patient, respectful phone manner. Callers are often confused or worried about money. The people who do well here are good listeners who don't get rattled and don't rush anyone. Genuinely willing to learn. You'll absorb a lot of new terminology in your first few months, and we'd rather you ask questions than guess. Dependable. Our patients need someone on the phone at 12:00 PM. Reliability matters more here than almost anything else. Basic computer skills and comfort learning new software High school diploma or equivalent Authorized to work in the United States Able to work the 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM shift consistently, Monday through Friday Helpful, But Not Required Any customer service, retail, call center, or front desk phone experience Prior work in a medical or dental office Coursework toward a Health Information Technology degree or a Medical Billing and Coding certificate Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance What We'll Train You On You'll work closely with our Patient Support Manager through a structured onboarding program covering: How health insurance works — deductibles, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums How to read an EOB and explain a patient balance clearly Medical billing terminology and the basics of the revenue cycle Our billing and practice management systems HIPAA compliance and patient privacy Handling difficult calls with professionalism HIPAA Training Requirement Because you'll be handling protected health information, all new team members must complete HIPAA privacy and security training and certification during onboarding. We provide the training at no cost to you and on paid time. Annual refresher training is also required. Successful completion is a condition of continued employment. The Schedule Monday through Friday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM, including a 30-minute unpaid meal break. This shift lets us serve practices in multiple time zones and gives patients a way to reach a real person after their own workday ends. If you have morning classes, this schedule is built to work around them. Compensation and Benefits $20.00 per hour during training, increasing to $23.00 - $25.00 per hour once you complete training and are handling calls independently Paid time off and paid holidays Health insurance HIPAA training and certification provided at no cost A clear path into accounts receivable, coding, and credentialing roles as you grow Why Consider Us Five minutes from the Grant Campus, accessible by Suffolk County Transit Afternoon shift that works around morning classes Real, transferable healthcare revenue cycle experience — the kind that shows up well on a resume We promote from within, and we'd rather grow someone than replace them UControl Billing is an equal opportunity employer.
