Job Description
O BILLING SPECIALIST - AMBULANCE BILLING
We are looking for an experienced Billing Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for handling ambulance billing and coding, reviewing patient accounts, submitting claims, resolving denials, and following up with insurance companies and government payers. Must have CAC (Certified Ambulance Coder). The right person for this role is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a busy office where accuracy and follow-through matter. You should be able to manage your workload independently while also working closely with the billing team, EMS personnel, patients, and insurance representatives.WHAT YOU'LL DO
Review patient care reports and confirm they are complete and ready for billing Verify patient demographics, insurance information, required signatures, and supporting documentation Determine the correct billing and payer type for each transport Enter patient and claim information accurately into the billing system Submit claims to commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers Monitor outstanding accounts and follow up based on payer requirements Review denied or rejected claims, identify recurring issues, and make corrections Complete insurance and government-payer reviews as needed File secondary or supplemental insurance claims when appropriate Assist patients with questions about their accounts and billing status Maintain electronic patient care reports and archived billing records Escalate patient complaints or complex account concerns to the Billing Manager Help maintain billing procedures and complete other duties as assignedWHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
High school diploma or GED Certified Ambulance Coder certification Medical billing or coding training and experience Working knowledge of Medicare billing requirements Strong attention to detail and consistent follow-up Clear written and verbal communication skills Ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities Ability to work independently and as part of a team Professional judgment and respect for confidential patient informationPreferred:
Previous ambulance billing experience Experience billing Medicare, Medicaid, or other government payers Experience with ambulance billing software; knowledge of ZOLL RescueNet and Traumasoft is a plus.SCHEDULE
This is generally a Monday through Friday position. Some flexibility may be required based on office needs and work location.WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in a fast-paced office with frequent communication, changing priorities, and regular interaction with staff, EMS personnel, patients, insurance companies, and the public.
