Currently, we are looking for a Billing Specialist II in our Detroit or Chicago office. In addition to our Detroit and Chicago offices, we have offices in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, Kalamazoo, and Washington D.C. With more than 350 attorneys working in 60 different areas of concentration, Honigman provides timely and cost-effective counsel to clients in numerous industries. The Billing Specialist II is responsible for managing the billing and invoicing processes with strong proficiency in legal billing and a primary focus on transactional billing. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating and executing the entire billing process for assigned billing attorneys and clients, editing pre-bills, processing and transmitting client invoices, maintaining client billing guidelines, and promptly resolving billing inquiries and requests. The Billing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely billing to clients by collaborating effectively with attorneys, clients, and other staff members.RESPONSIBILITIES
Generate, review, and prepare legal invoices in accordance with client billing guidelines and fee arrangements. Generate pre-bills, make edits, finalize invoices, and distribute bills to clients. Maintain billing records, adjustments, and dispute resolution documentation. Utilize Aderant, BillBlast, SQL reporting tools, and related legal billing systems. Process and submit e-billed invoices through BillBlast. Support complex deal-related billing activities for private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, lenders, and strategic buyers. Coordinate invoicing for active transactions involving multiple matters, legal entities, and client contacts. Manage accelerated billing cycles associated with deal closings and transaction milestones. Prepare interim, closing, and final invoices tied to transaction events. Assist with the preparation and coordination of closing estimates for transactional matters. Utilize firm-approved closing estimate templates, billing reports, and financial data to compile projected closing and post-closing fees and costs. Generate, run, and analyze SQL-based billing and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports to support transaction-related billing estimates, invoice preparation, and closing activities. Extract, validate, reconcile, and analyze billing, WIP, fee, and cost data from SQL-based reporting tools to ensure accuracy and completeness. Reconcile WIP balances, fee estimates, and pre-bill data to ensure consistency prior to transaction closings. Prepare and distribute closing estimate packages, billing reports, and supporting documentation to attorneys and other stakeholders. Create, maintain, and organize transaction-related billing records, backups, invoice documentation, and supporting financial schedules. Prepare summary invoices and manual billing documentation related to transaction closings and post-closing activities. Manage reimbursable expenses, disbursements, and billable costs. Prepare billing, aging, and financial reports for attorneys. Respond promptly to billing inquiries, discrepancies, and requests. Maintain accurate client, matter, and billing databases. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, finance personnel, and administrative staff to resolve billing issues and meet critical transaction deadlines. Ensure all billing activities are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with client billing guidelines and firm policies.QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 3+ years of law firm billing experience. Strong knowledge of legal billing principles, electronic billing processes, and troubleshooting. Intermediate proficiency with SQL and the ability to run, review, analyze, and reconcile billing and WIP reports. Experience working with SQL-based reporting tools and billing-related data queries. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data reconciliation skills. Experience with Aderant and BillBlast or eBilling Hub preferred. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transactional environment. Strong client service orientation and teamwork skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, particularly during transaction closings and other time-sensitive matters.REQUIREMENTS

The anticipated annual pay range for this role is $60,000 to $70,000 (non-exempt). The actual offered pay rate will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations.
