Job Description
About the Role PsychPointe is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support the revenue cycle for our behavioral health services. This role handles accurate, timely claims submission and follow-up and assists with prior authorizations, insurance verifications, insurance follow-up, and denial investigation. The Medical Billing Specialist works collaboratively and cross-functionally with clinical, administrative, and leadership staff and communicates directly with patients to obtain missing information. This role does not perform front office work; it is a hybrid role, backing up the call center or front office only if necessary, and includes other duties as needed. Responsibilities Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid Perform insurance follow-up on unpaid, rejected, or pended claims via payer portals and phone. Investigate claim denials to identify root causes and route findings for resolution; maintain denial logs. Post insurance and patient payments; reconcile against remittance advice (ERA/EOB). Contact patients to obtain missing demographic or insurance information and respond to billing inquiries with professionalism and compassion. Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and audit-ready billing records. Back up the call center or front office only if necessary; perform other duties as needed. Required and Desired Skills High school diploma or GED required; no college degree required. Minimum two (2) years of hands-on healthcare billing experience required; three (3) to five (5) years preferred. Behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder billing experience strongly preferred. Prior authorization, insurance verification, and denial investigation experience required. Experience with EHR billing modules, electronic claims submission, clearinghouses, and ERA/EOB reconciliation. Billing or coding certification (e.g., CPB, CBCS) is helpful but not required.
