This hybrid position is responsible for managing the medical billing process for a busy Otolaryngology practice, including accurate and timely claim submission, payment posting, account follow-up and denial resolution. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of ENT medical termininology, CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 coding, insurance requirements and physician billing. Athena software experience is a plus. CPC coding certification is also a plus. This role requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve billing and documentation issues while maximizing appropriate reimbursement and maintaining compliance with payer requirements. Duties Prepare, review, and submit medical claims using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems (Athena and ModMed software) Review provider documentation and ensure accurate CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 coding for Otolaryngology services including office visits, procedures and surgeries. Verify that claims contain appropriate modifiers, diagnosis codes, units, and supporting documentation. Process claims. Query providers, as needed. Be able to verify patient insurance coverage and benefits, including health insurance knowledge. Research insurance-specific requirements, medical policies, and coding guidelines. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and determine appropriate action. Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, medical records, and claim statuses. Be able to interpret Insurance EOBS. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing information and ensure compliance with coding standards. Assist with AR management, claim appeals, corrected claims, and aging account follow up. Stay current with updates in healthcare claims management regulations and coding guidelines to ensure compliance. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA applicable healthcare regulations. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in medical billing. Coding experience is a plus. Experience with Athena or similar electronic medical record/billing systems. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (ICD-10, CPT), and healthcare claims management. Experience with insurance denials, appeals, claim corrections, and payer follow-up. Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Medicare and commercial insurance billing requirements. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and problem solving skills to manage multiple claims simultaneously Ability to adapt quickly to new technology platforms and stay updated on industry changes.
