Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) / Ophthalmology About the Position We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on medical billing experience , preferably within an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), ophthalmology, or eye-care practice . This position is responsible for accurate and timely claims submission, payment posting, account follow-up, denial management, and overall accounts receivable support. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of ophthalmology/ASC billing and be comfortable working with insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers. Responsibilities Prepare, review, and submit clean medical claims accurately and within payer deadlines. Handle billing for ASC and/or ophthalmology procedures and services. Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits as needed. Review accounts for billing errors, missing information, and claim issues. Post insurance and patient payments accurately and timely. Work insurance denials, rejections, underpayments, and outstanding accounts receivable. Submit corrected claims and appeals when appropriate. Follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid and delayed claims. Maintain accurate patient account information and billing records. Research payer policies, billing requirements, and reimbursement issues. Communicate professionally with insurance representatives, patients, and internal staff. Assist with identifying trends in denials and recommending ways to improve collections. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable billing regulations. Qualifications 3+ years of medical billing experience required. Experience working with an ASC, ophthalmology practice, or eye-care organization strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of medical insurance billing and reimbursement processes. Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier usage. Experience with claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and A/R follow-up. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and other third-party payers. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Ability to identify and resolve billing discrepancies independently. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with medical billing software and electronic claims systems. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: Ophthalmology or eye surgery billing ASC facility billing Cataract surgery billing Glaucoma procedures Medicare ASC billing Insurance denials and appeals High-volume A/R follow-up Prior authorization and eligibility verification What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is experienced, dependable, detail-oriented, and takes ownership of their work .
