Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Made for More Mental Health and Counseling 1725 E 1450 S, Clearfield, UT 84015 From $18 an hour - Part-time From $18 an hour - Part-time Medical Biller (Part-Time) Mental Health / Behavioral Health Clinic About the Role We're looking for a detail-oriented, part-time Medical Biller to manage the billing cycle for our outpatient mental health practice. This role is responsible for accurate claims submission, proactive insurance follow-up, and clear communication with clients about their accounts. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, knows behavioral health billing nuances (session-based CPT codes, authorizations, timely filing limits), and takes ownership of getting claims paid. Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims (CMS-1500) for individual, group, and family therapy sessions Verify client insurance eligibility and benefits prior to or at intake Obtain and track prior authorizations and session limits with payers Post payments, adjustments, and denials; reconcile EOBs/ERAs against expected reimbursement Proactively follow up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims with insurance companies Research and resolve claim rejections and denials, including appeals when necessary Manage client billing questions, statements, and payment plans with a client-centered approach Track accounts receivable and flag aging balances for provider/owner review Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer-specific documentation requirements Keep billing software and client records accurate and up to date Chart auditing, checking CMS standards are being met. • Qualifications 2+ years of medical billing experience; behavioral/mental health billing strongly preferred Working knowledge of CPT codes common to mental health (e.g., 90791, 90834, 90837, 90847, 90853) and ICD-10 coding Experience with insurance verification, authorizations, and appeals Familiarity with EHR/practice management and clearinghouse systems (e.g., SimplePractice, TherapyNotes, Kareo, Availity, or similar) Strong follow-up skills and comfort making calls to insurance companies High attention to detail and solid understanding of HIPAA requirements Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or similar certification is a plus, not required. However upon hiring, candidate would need to complete a certification.
