Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and capable research professional to act as an independent Data Collector as a part of a national study called SHINE (Study of Health in Early and Adult Life). This study is a follow-up to a well-known longitudinal study (the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development) that began in the early 1990s. In SHINE2, a similar data collection will be conducted and merged with the existing database to examine aspects of health and aging over the life course. The Data Collector will conduct in-home study visits with adult subjects (ages 35-42) in the Irvine Metropolitan Area. The in-home study visits will be conducted in accordance with an IRB-approved research protocol. The research team will ensure that the Data Collector has the knowledge and skills to appropriately follow the protocols prior to any field work.

Main Responsibilities:

Perform an in-home study visit by conducting standardized assessments in areas of health and well-being, including, but not limited to, anthropometrics, blood pressure, health behaviors, and the administration of self-report questionnaires. Ensure the on-site mobile phlebotomist performs a routine blood draw, blood processing, and sample preparation for shipment (or courier delivery). Manage study appointments, study visit preparations, communications with subjects and vendors, and limited data management and data entry as well as other related miscellaneous tasks. Independently navigate multiple study-related websites and portals for data collection and data entry and troubleshoot any technical problems that may arise.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in a relevant social or health sciences field (e.g., nursing, psychology, epidemiology, public health) 3 or more years of experience working on research studies, preferably with in-field experience Demonstrated ability to work successfully with research team members and subjects Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent problem-solving skills Technical skills related to use of laptop, online data collection tools, and hotspot device Able to drive (occasionally long distances) by car to the in-home study visit Able to access an online map for navigation and prompt arrival to the in-home study visit Have a reliable mobile device for communication with the study team, subjects, and vendors Able to carry and set up equipment (e.g., flat scale, stadiometer, automated blood pressure monitor) for use at the in-home study visit Have availability in the mornings (7-10 am) when all study visits are scheduled to begin Have availability on weekends (if needed)

Payment:

Data Collector will receive $350 per completed subject. It is anticipated that the study visit (including travel) will not exceed 5 hours for the majority of subjects. The duration of the study is dependent on the completion of the entire eligible study cohort in the Irvine Metropolitan Area (about 50 subjects).
