This position is responsible for verifying eligibility and benefits, researching insurance coverage, identifying authorization requirements, and communicating insurance information accurately to patients and the Makar Eyecare team. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with multiple insurance plans and payer requirements. This position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to appointments Review and interpret medical and vision insurance benefits and coverage Determine patient benefits, copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and remaining balances Identify exclusions, limitations, frequency restrictions, and non-covered services Determine whether referrals, prior authorizations, or other requirements are necessary Document insurance verification information accurately in the EHR Communicate insurance benefits and financial expectations clearly to patients and staff Research and resolve insurance eligibility and benefit discrepancies Contact insurance companies when additional information or clarification is needed Work closely with the Front Desk, Billing, Contacts, Optical, technicians, and providers to ensure accurate insurance information Assist staff with insurance-related questions and problem solving Maintain accurate and up-to-date insurance information in patient accounts Monitor changes in insurance plans, payer requirements, and benefit information Help identify potential insurance issues before they result in claim denials or unexpected patient balances Maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality Establish professional goals and contribute to team initiatives Experience Experience verifying medical or vision insurance benefits strongly preferred Experience working in a medical office, optometry practice, ophthalmology practice, or healthcare environment preferred Knowledge of medical and vision insurance plans and terminology Familiarity with eligibility and benefits portals and insurance websites Experience working with EHR systems Ability to understand and interpret insurance benefit information Experience communicating insurance information to patients in a clear and professional manner Qualifications High School Diploma or GED 1-3 years of healthcare, insurance, medical office, or related experience preferred Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Excellent customer service skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong computer and data-entry skills Ability to learn and navigate multiple insurance systems and portals Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Ability to prioritize workload effectively Ability to work independently while also being an effective team member Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Reliable attendance record Ability to work an occasional Saturday What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, detail-oriented, and a strong problem solver .
