Job Description

Parenting Specialist Job Description Work with families involved with DCFS and other state agencies, usually biological parents with their children at risk of or in foster care, to provide in home, community and group based services around parenting, safety, relationship building and other areas of concern or benefit. Can also work with children, kinship providers and foster parents. Job includes, but is not limited to: Work with parents in individual and group settings. Home visits, document preparation for files including reports on families and counts for agency reporting, DCFS/ other state agencies and court, required staffings with TEMFRC team, monthly staffings with various DCFS offices, collaboration with other team members as well as partners within the community. Assess high risk families on an ongoing basis, use evidence based or supported curricula and/ or develop a service plan based on assessments. Maintain caseload of approximately 14 parents. Caseloads can increase/ decrease. Work with coworkers on group projects and services, which could include childcare, transportation, meal prep, cleanup etc if need be. Always, always, always promote cooperation, common understanding, empathy, accountability and trust- with the families, within TEM and with DCFS!

Expectations:

Professional confidentiality standards are understood and adhered to. Paperwork and client work guidelines are adhered to (see documentation paperwork). Office hours at this time are M-F, 8:00- 4:30, but this position requires some flexible schedule in order to meet working parents. Some after hours and weekend work is expected. Text or email Supervisor daily work plan, including home visits and appts. Inform supervisor if you are not working during office hours. Turn in planned leave 2 weeks prior, and emergency or sick leave immediately upon return. Established employees assist with shadowing component of training new staff- all staff must be shadowed. Attend all required training, including ongoing yearly training hours. Must have a college degree in social services related field.

•After 6 months, remote work (from home) may be permitted with approval. Until that time employee must be in the office when not on visits or shadowing.
