Litigation Support / Document Production About the Role Empire Discovery is a New York-based eDiscovery, paper production, and digital forensics firm serving law firms and corporate legal departments. We're looking for a detail-oriented Scan Operator to join our document production team, responsible for converting physical documents into high-quality digital images that meet strict litigation and discovery standards. What You'll Do Operate high-volume production scanners (e.g., Kodak, Fujitsu, or Canon document scanners) to digitize legal documents, contracts, medical records, and other case materials Prepare physical documents for scanning, including removing staples/clips, repairing damaged pages, and organizing documents in proper sequence Apply Bates numbering, endorsements, and stamps according to client specifications Perform quality control checks on scanned images to ensure legibility, correct page order, and completeness Index and organize digital files according to project-specific naming conventions and load file requirements Operate OCR (optical character recognition) software to convert scanned images into searchable text Maintain strict chain-of-custody protocols for confidential and privileged materials Troubleshoot basic scanner hardware/software issues and escalate as needed Meet daily production quotas and tight case deadlines without sacrificing accuracy Handle sensitive, confidential, and privileged legal documents with discretion What You'll Need High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework a plus 1+ years of experience operating production/high-volume scanners (litigation support, legal, or records management environment preferred) Familiarity with Bates numbering, document coding, or legal document handling Basic proficiency with document management or eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity) a plus, but not required Strong attention to detail and ability to catch errors in fast-paced conditions Comfortable with repetitive physical tasks (standing, lifting boxes of documents up to 25-30 lbs) Reliable, punctual, and able to work on-site in NYC Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive legal and personal information Basic computer literacy (file management, data entry) Nice to Have Experience with imaging/scanning software (Kofax, ABBYY, or similar) Prior experience in a law firm, court reporting agency, or eDiscovery vendor environment Familiarity with load file creation (Concordance, Opticon) Schedule & Compensation Part-time, on-site in NYC Occasional overtime may be required to meet case deadlines How to
