Join Our General Surgery Practice in Anchorage, Alaska We're looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Medical Billing/Coding Specialist to join our close-knit General Surgery practice in Anchorage. The Opportunity Our ideal candidate is a skilled medical billing professional with a positive, professional attitude and a commitment to accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and teamwork. This position offers flexible hours with remote or hybrid options, while requiring some in-clinic time for collaboration with providers and staff. Key Responsibilities Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary prior authorizations Accurately and timely submit medical claims to insurance companies Post insurance and patient payments Follow up on unpaid claims and outstanding balances Research and resolve insurance denials Communicate with patients regarding billing questions and concerns Work closely with providers, clinical staff, insurance companies, and patients Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA requirements Identify billing issues and proactively work toward effective solutions Ideal Qualifications 2+ years of medical billing and/or coding experience Experience with surgical billing, ICD-10-CM, and CPT coding Experience with prior authorizations, claims submission, payment posting, and denial resolution Familiarity with EMR medical record/billing systems Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills Comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative team Professional, pleasant, and service-oriented communication style High level of integrity and commitment to patient confidentiality CPC and/or CPMA certification through AAPC or AHIMA preferred Education High school diploma or equivalent required Education or coursework in medical coding, medical terminology, and basic human anatomy preferred CPC and/or CPMA certification preferred What You'll Love About Us Small, close-knit practice Supportive and positive work environment Flexible scheduling Remote or hybrid work options A team culture that values communication, integrity, and problem-solving A chance to make a meaningful impact on both the practice and the patient experience Ready to Join Our Team?
