Non Exempt Job Summary :
The Billing Representative is responsible for processing and submitting authorizations for medical procedures and surgeries done in the office, as well as verifying insurance benefits and patient costs for those procedures and surgeries, answering/triaging phone calls within the Billing Department, processing and posting patient payments and managing the collections of delinquent patient payments and ongoing accounts receivable with insurance carriers.
Primary Job Responsibilities :
MEDICAL INSURANCE CARRIER ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE
  • Review of all unpaid claims, within a timely manner, and determine reason claim is not paid.
  • Review denials and process corrected claims
  • Ability to communicate with all insurance carriers
  • Understand processes, per carrier, for reprocessing of claims, working claim denials and any unpaid claims
  • Knowledge of carrier policies and processes
  • Knowledge of current CPT coding, Modifiers and ICD10 assignments
  • Manage and track worked claims for timely follow up, high volume
  • Ability to read EOBs and determine what to do next
AUTHORIZATION OF MEDICAL PROCEDURES
  • Process and submit timely authorization requests for medical procedures and surgeries done in the office.
  • Contact insurance companies to verify the medical benefits of patients who are scheduled for a procedure or surgery
  • Verify the out of pocket cost of patients who are scheduled for a procedure or surgery and notify patient of findings
BILLING DEPARTMENT PHONE CALLS
  • Triage Billing Department phone calls to appropriate Billing Department Insurance Representatives
  • Process patient payments via the phone and post those payments to the appropriate account/accounts
PATIENT COLLECTIONS
  • Manage delinquent patient accounts in a timely manner
  • Prepare and submit delinquent patient accounts to outside Collection agency Education High School Diploma or equivalent Experience Minimum of two years medical insurance billing and collections.
Prefer experience in private medical practice or a private health care organization.
Performance Requirements Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing and coding terminology, EMR functionality, Practice Management functionality
  • Knowledge of patient collections rules and regulations
  • Overall knowledge of required policies and procedures for private practice health care organization
  • Overall knowledge of HIPAA regulations
Knowledge of Fair Credit Act Skills:
  • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve goals
  • Skill in organizing work, and achieving goals
  • Skill in written and verbal communication
Equipment Operated:
  • Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones among other equipment
Work Environment :
  • Remote and medical office, therefore, must be local
  • Continual interaction with others
Physical Requirements:
  • Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Medical Insurance Billing Representative including: walking, bending, standing, reaching and sitting

  • This job is a hybrid of in office and in home work locations after a minimum of 6 months of training in the office
