The Law Department is composed of the City Attorney's Office, which represents the City in civil matters, and the City Prosecutor's Office, which prosecutes misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix. The Legal Clerk Unit (LCU) provides direct support to attorneys and to the operations of the Trial and Charging Bureaus. The LCU is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Court Legal Clerk III (LCU III) position within the Prosecutor's Office to provide supervisory administrative support. The Court Legal Clerk III is a supervisory assignment within the Legal Clerk Unit (LCU), requiring considerable independent judgment and responsibility for a range of duties including: hiring and training clerical staff in a high volume work environment; managing day to day operations; developing new or improved processes, systems, procedures forms, perform docket and leave audits, and completes special projects assigned by Leadership. The Court Legal Clerk III must demonstrate strong leadership, meet deadlines, manage time efficiently, and communicate clearly, while working under the supervision of Administrative Assistant I. Charging Bureau - The Charging Bureau is responsible for reviewing and filing complaints filed by Phoenix Police Department and Initial Appearance Court. The Court Legal Clerk III position acts as a resource to the LCIIs and other support staff, solves problems, completes special projects assigned by the Charging Bureau Chief or Supervisor, and data entry into the electronic case management system, ProsecutorByKarpel, The Court Legal Clerk III is also assigned specific duties in assisting with re-files, County referral cases, submittals, barking dog complaints and assists as a backup for creating files and preparing Initial Appearance and Arraignment case files, as needed. Trial Bureau - The Trial Bureau is responsible for providing representation relating to pretrial disposition conferences, jury and non-jury trials, sentencing and probation hearings, pleas negotiations at Arraignment Court and Bond Review Court, and evaluates cases in order to make appropriate plea offers. The Court Legal Clerk III position acts as a resource to the Court Legal Clerk IIs and other support staff, solves problems, completes special projects assigned by the Trial Bureau Chief or Supervisor. The Court Legal Clerk III is also responsible for specific assigned duties, including overseeing courtroom divisions to ensure all cases are properly prepared and ready for the prosecutor, as well as processing traffic and parking matters. This position requires early morning coverage, with a standard schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. being the earliest available schedule, to ensure effective support for the team being supervised.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Experience with electronic case management systems such as ProsecutorByKarpel, including accurate data entry. Ability to collaborate professionally with court staff, attorneys, law enforcement, victims, and the public, even in high-stress situations. Clear, concise, and professional communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to manage daily operations while exercising independent judgment and meeting strict deadlines. Knowledge of alpha and numerical filing systems, possesses advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, along with strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills. Familiarity with legal terminology, State and Federal constitutional provisions, State Statutes, Municipal Ordinances, and Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Discovery, and Victims' Rights. Knowledge of Inter-Agency Communication. Ability to interact professionally with members of the public, judges, attorneys, and other employees in the legal system.
SALARY Pay Range:
$26.70 to $37.58 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$26.70 to $34.08 per hour.

Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of clerical experience, including two years of experience performing specialized clerical tasks in the courtroom, in a related court operation section, or a law office. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Strong skill in developing, refining, and implementing processes, systems, and procedures. Familiarity with Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Discovery and Victims' Rights. Experience in hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating clerical staff effectively. Experience conducting audits (docket, leave, or similar). Lead or Supervisory experience. Fluent in Spanish including speaking, reading, and writing.
