Job Description

Deputy Town Clerk The Town of Bethlehem Town Clerk's Office is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Town Clerk. Primary duties include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
  • Answer all inquiries made by the general public, other government agencies and private organizations pertinent to the general practices and procedures of the Office of the Town Clerk;
  • Issue licenses, certificates and permits including but not limited to marriage licenses, hunting and fishing licenses, dog licenses, certificates of residence, dog park permits, handicapped parking permits and collect associated fees;
  • Track and maintain a daily record of monies received, deposited and expended;
  • Administer oaths and affirmations for sworn statements and maintain an organized log of all completed notarial acts as required by law;
  • Assist the Town Clerk in developing and maintaining the policies and procedures of the Office of the Town Clerk related to records management;
  • Attend Town Board meetings in the place of the Town Clerk to keep a complete record of the proceedings and generate corresponding minutes;
  • Assist the Town Clerk in processing, tracking and responding to Freedom of Information Law requests;
  • Assure all inquiries, legal instruments and actions directed to or from the Office of the Town Clerk have been properly documented and substantiated in conformance with established laws, rules, regulations and procedures governing such actions.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Graduation from High School or possession of a general equivalency diploma; 2. Two (2) years of office or administrative experience; 3. Possession of a Notary Public license OR pass the New York Notary Exam within 6 months of being hired. Starting Salary for this position is: $54,579 Town benefits include paid vacation, holidays, sick time, medical and dental insurance, and New York State Retirement.
