Clerk of CourtsPOSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Clerk of Courts, the Deputy Clerk performs a variety of clerical, administrative, customer service, financial, and recordkeeping duties in support of the efficient operation of the Perry County Clerk of Courts Office. The Deputy Clerk is responsible for receiving, processing, filing, docketing, maintaining, and retrieving court documents and records; collecting and receipting court-related payments and fees; assisting attorneys, litigants, court personnel, government agencies, and the general public; and performing other duties as assigned. Employees in this position must exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, provide professional and courteous customer service, and accurately follow applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures, and court directives.DEPUTY CLERK RESPONSIBILITIES
- Court Records and Case Processing o Establish and maintain case files and enter case information accurately into applicable court case management systems.
- Financial and Payment Processing o Receive payments for court costs, filing fees, fines, and other authorized transactions.
- Customer Service and Public Assistance o Provide courteous, professional, and efficient assistance to attorneys, litigants, court personnel, government agencies, and the general public.
- Court and Office Support o Communicate and coordinate with judges, court staff, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, county departments, and other governmental entities as necessary.
- Other Duties o Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information in accordance with applicable laws, court rules, and County policies.
DEPUTY CLERK QUALIFICATIONS
Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered, including but not limited to:- Education o High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
- Experience o Previous clerical, administrative, customer service, financial, legal, court, or government office experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to:- Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, procedures, and court rules.
- Learn and apply applicable laws, regulations, and office procedures.
- Maintain organized and accurate paper and electronic records.
- Perform accurate data entry and operate computerized case management and office software systems.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information professionally and appropriately.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service in potentially stressful or difficult situations.
- Deal tactfully and effectively with attorneys, litigants, court personnel, law enforcement, government agencies, and the general public.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately process financial transactions.
- Organize work, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks in a busy office environment.
- Work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a professional office and court environment. The employee regularly uses computers, telephones, scanners, copiers, and other standard office equipment. The position requires frequent interaction with the public and may involve working with individuals who are experiencing stressful or emotionally difficult legal situations.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
