Surgical Services Specialist Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center - 3.5 Akron, OH Job Details Full-time $19 - $28 an hour 21 hours ago Benefits Disability insurance Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Tuition reimbursement Paid time off Vision insurance Qualifications High school diploma or GED Quality assurance Productivity software Full Job Description Position Summary This is a hybrid position consisting of the duties for the following: Unit Secretary (40%)/OR Scheduler (25%)/Allograft Tissue Coordinator (35%), or Unit Secretary (50%)/OR scheduler (25%)/2nd Assistant (25%). Performs and coordinates a variety of clerical duties and supports the surgical services team function. Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities Performs a variety of clerical functions in any division of CCOC unit including General clerical duties (e.g., collecting, collating, copying, data entry, distributing, filing, scheduling of surgeries, procedures and diagnostic tests, use of pneumatic tube, etc..). Follows up on missing and/or incomplete logs, and orders.
Tissue coordination:
ensures the policies; procedures and standards are adhered to regarding recovery/acquisition, storge, distribution, and use of allograft/tissues. Ensures that product integrity controls (e.g., tissue storage, laboratory testing, bacteriological cultures) are used effectively. Collaborates with Management and Education/ Compliance to provide training and competency testing to all technical staff. Remains current and knowledgeable in all aspects of tissue banking technical standards and regulatory affairs. Coordinates communications (i.e. answering phone, fax correspondence, departmental intercom, hospital paging system, receiving, and distributing messages, etc.), accepts and enters as appropriate case scheduling information, decides which personnel to contact and contacts appropriate personnel with necessary information. Provides backup coverage for Scheduler; assists with surgery scheduling; Covers late shift, as needed. Determines and updates CPT Codes for cases not issued by the surgeon's office according to information from Service Line RN. Moves and close rooms according to management guidelines for better utilization. Cancels and adds cases to daily schedule as necessary. Reports problems and complaints or unusual situations immediately to supervisor; Communicates changes to physician offices, surgery campuses and P.A.T. Schedules all surgical cases and based on case requirements for time, equipment, and staffing levels and according to departmental scheduling policies with doctors and their staff; Refers special requests and specialty needs to appropriate personnel; Identifies conflicts and seeks resolution by following written standards for scheduling surgical procedures. Ensures availability of resources before scheduling case. Utilizes block booking to provide efficient daily running of the surgery schedule. Calculates block time usage identified by service, specialty, physician, or physician groups. Releases block time identified by specific physician offices. Prints surgical schedules required in a timely fashion. Maintains information system appropriate to surgical scheduling use (i.e., surgeon, procedure). Confirms vendor/student sign in and assists with Visitor Management. Compiles daily and monthly information as requested for CCOC statistics. Keeps manager informed on key issues. Assists with multifunctional activities and patient care, transportation and discharging of patients if needed. Assists with orientation of new employees as requested. Assures privacy, comfort and safety needs of patients as needed. Updates and maintains departmental logs and disseminates; accordingly, Records and creates minutes for all Unit In-Service Meetings; Maintains CCOC departmental Policy and Procedure Manual.
Second Assistant:
Functions as a second assistant during operative and other invasive procedures under the direction of a surgeon by Providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques. Cutting suture at the direction of the surgeon or first assistant. Handling tissues in collaboration with the surgeon. All other duties not specifically assigned.
Position Requirements Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 to 5 years' office experience using a multi-line telephone system and telecommunications operator using an automated call distribution (ACD) system in a fast-paced call center is preferred. Prior tissue banking experience preferred. Operating Room (OR) experience preferred. Knowledge of general procedures for tissue recovery; quality assurance; distribution.
Technical Skills:
Excellent communication and phone skills. Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations :
