$18.00/hrPOSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for receiving and processing all Magistrate Court documents and providing general administrative and clerical support to the court.MAJOR DUTIES
Processes civil cases, ordinance violations, small claims, criminal warrant cases, and other legal documents. Collects civil filing fees and issues receipts. Maintains diary of civil cases; monitors critical deadlines; schedules cases for non-jury trials. Locates and corrects errors in the case management system software program. Enters citations into the computer. Prepares dockets; collects fines; disburses fines to county treasurer; disposes of citations and reports to SCDMV. Creates and processes criminal warrants; submits to Sheriff's Office for service; schedules hearings and court dates; notifies all interested parties. Prints and mails letters for jury trials; schedules jury trials and enters to court docket; maintains juror records; issues juror checks. Notifies victims of bond hearings; notifies victims of the release of inmates/defendants. Transfers cases to other courts as warranted. Accepts and posts bond payments; disburses payments to appropriate court agencies. Balances cash against daily receipts, prepares and makes bank deposits, prepares monthly reports of monies collected and cases processed, reconciles bank statements, and disburses funds to the appropriates authorities. Prepares various reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Attends court sessions and provides general clerical assistance: disposes of cases on docket; issues bench warrants; continues cases; sends paperwork to appropriate agency. Assists the general public by telephone and in person with the filing of civil cases and issuing of warrants for victims by providing information on the filing process and answering other questions related to court business. Oversees the debt set-off program. Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of the functions and procedures of the Magistrate Court. Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting practices. Knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology. Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations. Skill in keeping records and preparing reports. Skill in operating a computer, facsimile. Machine, calculator, and copier. Skill in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office and courtroom setting.PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
