General Public - G Additional Detail Job Duties The Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) performs operational and administrative responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced court environment with frequent deadlines. This position ensures the accurate preparation and processing of legal documents and the timely execution of court instructions in accordance with Virginia statutes, court rules, local ordinances, and established court policies and procedures. Under the supervision of the Supervising Deputy Clerk or Chief Deputy provides a broad range of customer service, courtroom support, and administrative functions essential to the efficient operation of the Court. The position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare, review, and process court documents in accordance with established guidelines, policies, and legal requirements. Enter and maintain accurate case information in the automated case management system. Schedule hearings, court proceedings, and related matters. Prepare and distribute correspondence, notices, and other court-related communications. File, retrieve, and maintain court records and documents. Prepare daily court dockets and attend court sessions to provide courtroom support. Respond to inquiries from the public, attorneys, agencies, and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and court procedures. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment and assume additional duties as assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications The most competitive candidates will possess: Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Considerable court, business, administrative, or office-related experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with office automation systems, case management applications, and standard computer software programs. Ability to provide effective customer service and interact professionally with diverse populations. Experience in civil or criminal court operations is preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively while adapting to changing priorities and operational needs.
