In person Job Summary Alderson-Ford Funeral Homes, Inc., which operates Alderson-Ford Funeral Home in Cheshire and Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home in Naugatuck, is seeking a dependable and organized Administrative Assistant to join our Naugatuck office. This position plays an important role in the day-to-day operation of the funeral home and provides administrative support to our funeral directors and staff. Responsibilities include answering phones, assisting families and visitors, preparing and maintaining funeral-related paperwork, preparing service materials, maintaining records and files, and handling general office responsibilities. We are a family-owned funeral home organization with a long history of serving families in our communities. We are looking for someone who wants to learn the role, become confident in the day-to-day responsibilities of the office, and grow into an important part of our team. Responsibilities Answer phones and respond to emails professionally Prepare, review, and maintain funeral and cremation paperwork Assist with death certificate information and documentation Process insurance assignments and related documentation Prepare service stationery and printed materials Maintain accurate electronic and physical files Track outstanding paperwork, deadlines, and follow-up items Assist with bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping using QuickBooks Maintain vendor, insurance, and business records Communicate with families, funeral directors, churches, cemeteries, hospitals, insurance companies, and other organizations Provide general administrative support for the day-to-day needs of the funeral home Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience in an office, administrative, or clerical setting required Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks Strong computer skills, including data entry, word processing, email, and maintaining organized electronic records Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional phone and email manner Reliable, punctual, and professional Comfortable learning new software and office systems Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities, deadlines, and follow-up items accurately Able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately Comfortable working in a funeral home environment
FUNERAL HOME EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED
Previous funeral home experience is helpful, but it is not required. Experience in another professional office setting can translate well to this position, including: Medical or dental office administration Legal or insurance offices Banking or financial services Healthcare administration General office administration If you have experience keeping an office organized, handling important paperwork, communicating professionally with the public, managing deadlines, and making sure details are handled accurately, we encourage you to apply.
