Job Description

The Office Assistant I is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties for the Sheriff. Answer the telephone, take messages and assists in processing requests from the community and different members of the Sheriff's Office. Maintain the Sheriff's calendar and schedules appointments for the Sheriff with public and agency personnel. Compose letters and inter-office memos for the Sheriff. Schedule swearing in ceremonies and ceremonies for the presentation of various awards to be presented by the Sheriff. Purchase office supplies for Administrative Offices. Process incoming and outgoing mail. Perform general office, clerical, and reception functions. The Office Assistant I should possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Necessary Special Requirements Must meet the skill level, MODERATE, as evaluated by the Macon-Bibb County administrative test. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of personal computers and basic office programs such as Outlook, Excel and Word. Ability to make priority decisions in accordance with established rules, regulations and departmental policies. Ability to use discretion in handling sensitive materials and other confidential information. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
