Job Description

The Student Advising Center Student Worker provides vital front-line support by serving as the welcoming face of the department, managing front desk operations, greeting students, answering phone calls, and coordinating appointment schedules for the advising team, while also keeping the office organized and assisting with events. Through this hands-on campus experience, student workers gain valuable administrative and professional skills in a dynamic higher-education setting while supporting daily office workflows and student success. This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen the following competencies:
Communication:
Students build communication skills by practicing clear, respectful, and professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in a workplace setting.
Critical Thinking:
Students build critical thinking skills by applying judgment, solving problems, prioritizing tasks, maintaining accuracy, and using feedback to improve their work.
Professionalism:
Students build professionalism by practicing dependability, accountability, confidentiality when applicable, workplace etiquette, and respectful service in a workplace setting.
Teamwork:
Students build teamwork skills by collaborating with supervisors, staff, and peers to support department goals, assist others, and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Greet and assist visitors, guests, and students in the Advising Center.
  • Answer phones, direct calls to appropriate staff, and schedule advising appointments.
  • Help with copying, filing, scanning, and preparing materials for the office.
  • Support drop-in hours and check-in for advising appointments.
  • Assist with events, workshops, and student outreach activities.
  • Help keep student records organized and support special projects.
  • Run occasional errands around campus.
  • Perform related duties as required.
MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
Must be Federal Work-Study eligible Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word and basic Excel.
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
