NEC2027APosition SummaryThe Payroll and Business Office Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a diverse workforce, including teachers, administrators, and support staff. This position also provides administrative and financial support to the Business Office. As a highly visible role serving all NEC employees, success requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Reports ToChief Financial OfficerSupervisory ResponsibilitiesNoneEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPayroll Processing and SupportPrepare and process payroll for all employees, including salaried, hourly, and substitute staffEnter and verify payroll data, including hours worked, salary adjustments, benefits, and deductionsProcess timecards, overtime, and other payroll-related transactionsMaintain and update accrual records; process absence data within the payroll systemComplete biweekly and monthly retirement reportingCompliance and RecordkeepingEnsure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local laws, as well as NEC policiesMaintain accurate and organized payroll records, including pay stubs, tax forms, direct deposit information, and garnishmentsMonitor and reconcile accrual records, resolving discrepancies as neededSystems Management and Data IntegrityMaintain and update employee payroll information within the payroll systemAssist with payroll audits and reconcile discrepanciesGenerate and distribute payroll-related reportsEmployee Support and CommunicationRespond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdingsAssist employees with payroll forms, direct deposit setup, and timesheet submissionCollaborate with Human Resources and Finance to ensure accuracy of compensation and benefitsBusiness Office SupportAssist with accounts payable and receivable functionsMaintain accurate financial records and filing systems (electronic and paper)Reconcile financial documents and support monthly reportingRespond to vendor and staff inquiries regarding payments and accountsPrepare and distribute financial correspondence and reportsPerform general clerical and administrative duties, including copying, scanning, and data entryRequired Skills and AbilitiesAbility to maintain a high level of confidentialityStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent interpersonal and customer service skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage competing priorities and meet deadlinesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; experience with School ERP Pro Software preferredWorking knowledge of federal and state labor laws, including FMLAUnderstanding of collective bargaining agreements and union-based payroll processesAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentEducation and Experience35 years of payroll experience, preferably in a school district or public sector settingStrong knowledge of payroll regulations, labor laws, and tax complianceExperience with payroll systems; School ERP Pro experience strongly preferredFamiliarity with public school finance and budget practices preferredWork EnvironmentOffice-based position requiring prolonged periods of sitting and computer useFast-paced environment requiring prioritization and flexibilityFrequent interaction with staff and stakeholdersOccasional need to work beyond the standard school day to meet deadlinesAbility to lift up to 10 poundsTerms of EmploymentEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks in accordance with applicable lawsMust be authorized to work in the United StatesSalary Range$60,000 $70,000
