The Prince George's Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a General Clerk IV , grade A12 position, in the Sustainable Waste Management Division . About the Position This is senior-level advanced clerical work performed in support of operations at a sanitary landfill facility. Incumbents in this class perform complex and advanced clerical assignments, including maintaining operational records and logs, preparing correspondence and reports, responding to inquiries from residents, contractors, and visitors, and providing administrative support related to landfill activities. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a designated supervisor and is evaluated in terms of quality, quantity, completeness, and accuracy. About the Agency The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division). Assist in the day-to-day clerical activities in support of the Sustainable Waste Management Division. Answer telephone, direct calls, and disseminate messages. Greet visitors entering the facilities, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations. Collect, sort, distribute, and/or prepare mail and courier deliveries. Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions and disseminate or explain information. Maintain daily weather logs. Enters invoice payment information related to the Disposal Section into the Invoice Tracker once received. Assist in document reproduction tasks and preparation of binder and booklets. Assist with Section Aides in the processing of electronic time sheets. Perform other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work. Minimum Qualifications Must have experience at the General Clerk III level equal to the length of the probationary period; or six (6) months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks. One (1) year of education above the high school level which includes coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of reception/front-desk and customer service experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (ex. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Knowledge of principles for providing customer service. Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may also be accepted.
