THE POSITION

Become a Clerical Assistant 2 with the Department of Corrections at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale. Your work will support essential functions that help the institution operate effectively each day. This role is ideal for someone who values precision, teamwork, and steady office responsibilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports office operations that keep the institution running efficiently. The role ensures that communication, documentation, and coordination tasks are handled with accuracy and care. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

Confidentiality Practices:

Maintain confidentiality for staff, inmates, and department information

Phone Communication:

Answer, make, and direct phone calls while recording and distributing messages

Mail Processing:

Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail and packages

Document Preparation:

Type documents and correspondences and review them for grammar and numerical accuracy

Scheduling Support:

Schedule and coordinate appointments, meetings, and videoconferences and take minutes when needed

Record Management:

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full time employment, 37.5 hours per week.

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday

  • Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:

You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Salary:

Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

Graduation from high school; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

Must be able to perform essential job functions
