Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic team as a City Carrier and become a vital part of delivering excellence! In this energetic role, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting mail, packages, and parcels to residential and commercial addresses. Your dedication will ensure timely deliveries, exceptional customer service, and the smooth operation of our delivery network. This position offers an engaging environment where your driving skills and manual handling expertise make a real difference every day. Responsibilities Sort, organize, and prepare mail and packages for the assigned route. Case and arrange mail in the proper delivery sequence. Safely load and organize mail and packages for delivery. Deliver letters, flats, packages, and accountable mail accurately and efficiently. Collect outgoing mail from designated collection points and customers. Operate postal vehicles safely and responsibly when assigned. Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and Postal Service vehicle requirements. Walk and deliver assigned routes safely while remaining alert to hazards and changing conditions. Properly scan packages and other items requiring electronic delivery confirmation. Obtain required signatures and maintain accountability for accountable and special-service mail. Follow customer-specific delivery instructions when consistent with Postal Service procedures. Properly handle undeliverable, vacant, forwarded, and returned mail. Safeguard all mail, packages, equipment, vehicles, keys, and Postal Service property. Provide courteous, professional, and respectful customer service. Respond appropriately to customer questions and refer issues requiring management assistance. Maintain required records, forms, and documentation associated with daily duties. Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, loose animals, hazards, accidents, and other delivery concerns promptly. Attend required safety talks, stand-up talks, training, and meetings. Communicate with management regarding workload, route conditions, delays, accidents, customer concerns, and other operational issues. Complete assigned duties and workload while maintaining safety, accuracy, and service standards. Cooperate with coworkers and assist with operational needs when directed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Adapt to changing mail volume, package volume, weather conditions, staffing needs, and operational demands. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Reliable and regular attendance — Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled and maintain dependable attendance. Punctuality — Report for duty on time and be prepared to begin assigned duties at the scheduled start time. Ability to deliver mail safely and efficiently to residential and business customers along an assigned route. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and cover significant distances during the workday. Ability to lift, carry, push, and maneuver mail and packages , including heavier parcels. Ability to safely operate a postal vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license when required. Ability to follow postal policies, procedures, safety rules, and delivery instructions. Ability to accurately sort, organize, scan, and deliver mail and packages. Customer-service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers. Ability to work independently while remaining accountable for assigned workload and delivery responsibilities. Ability to meet established performance and delivery expectations. Ability to adapt to changing workload and staffing conditions , including heavy-volume days and route adjustments. Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or adjusted schedules when required by operational needs and applicable work rules. Professional conduct and teamwork — Maintain a respectful, safe, and productive work environment. Dependability and accountability — Complete assigned duties and communicate promptly with management regarding problems that may affect delivery.
