Job Description
Position Summary The Front Desk Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, volunteers, and community partners at Charis Health Center. This role is responsible for providing a welcoming, compassionate, and professional environment while supporting efficient clinic operations through patient registration, scheduling, and administrative coordination. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mission-driven, and committed to serving uninsured and underserved populations with dignity and respect. Key ResponsibilitiesPatient & Visitor Services Greet patients and visitors warmly and professionally. Check patients in and out, ensuring accurate and complete registration. Verify demographic and eligibility information in accordance with clinic policies. Provide clear instructions regarding wait times, forms, and next steps. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements at all times. Scheduling & Communication Answer and route incoming phone calls in a courteous and timely manner. Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments. Provide reminders and follow-up calls as directed by clinical staff. Coordinate interpretation services for non-English-speaking patients as needed. Administrative Support Maintain organized front desk workflow and waiting area. Collect and document required forms and documentation from patients. Enter and update patient data in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Assist with scanning, filing, and maintaining accurate patient records. Support clinic events, special programs, and outreach initiatives as assigned. Operational Excellence Monitor patient flow and communicate delays to clinical staff and patients. Ensure front desk supplies and forms are stocked and organized. Adhere to clinic policies, safety procedures, and quality standards. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure a smooth patient experience.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of front desk, receptionist, or customer service experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, email, data entry). Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.Preferred:
Experience in a healthcare or nonprofit clinic setting. Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) strongly preferred. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 20 lbs). Ability to manage a busy front desk environment with frequent interruptions.
