This position requires knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, and punctuation; use and operation of a telephone switchboard system; standard office procedures and practices; word processing techniques and computer software applications. Must possess the skill to type/word process accurately at a rate required for successful job performance minimum 35 net wpm ; operate standard office equipment including computer terminal, calculator, copy machines and typewriter; understand and follow both oral and written directions; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties. Must possess the ability to receive incoming calls and route to proper stations; take telephone messages and distribute to appropriate office/personnel; schedules and reserves usage of meeting rooms; answers questions and provides information regarding school/District office standards, policies, procedures, etc.; maintains files as assigned; performs related duties as required. One year of general clerical experience, including experience in the operation of a telephone switchboard with receptionist duties.A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website. Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. DUTIES OF POSITION
Operate a telephone switchboard system at a District office; greet, direct, receive and route telephone calls to appropriate departments/personnel; provide information to callers; provide clerical support to other offices as assigned. Employees in this classification receive direct to general supervision from a District office administrator within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate transferal of calls and messages to appropriate District office/school personnel and requires effective communication skill.STARTING SALARY
