OF POSITION
The PBX Operator operates multi-position switchboard to relay incoming and outgoing calls. Performs miscellaneous communications and clerical duties. Operates radios, beeping and paging systems. Operates mutual aid radio and monitors emergency codes.
SUPERVISION
Reports directly to the PBX Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Answers all incoming calls and relays to proper stations. Direct callers in need of language line assistance. Monitor generator, fire and medical gas panels for trouble and report to maintenance/ security. Answers questions of callers according to hospital policies and regulations. Monitor Metasys system for alarms and alerts. Notify proper department. Routes call to proper departments, personnel and patient rooms. Pages authorized personnel over intercom system. Makes necessary announcements regarding visiting hours and other notifications (announces Codes). Acts as information center for visitors and outside callers when auxiliary workers are off duty. Responsible for documenting necessary information regarding LCMHS Emergency Codes. Pages and/or calls personnel on call during off hours for other hospital staff. Monitors arrivals of incoming helicopters. Logs and notifies repair representatives of phone problems. Understands and uses AT&T telephone console and hand set/head set features, and is able to communicate the same. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic computer skills. Capable of clear and succinct verbal and written communications. Possess a high level of patience and tenacity. Capable of rapid problem identification and resolution. Effective communication skills, solid team player and a commitment to providing excellent patient service and professionalism. Physical Demands/Work Environment Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting. The work environment may be physically confining. Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities. Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing technology devices that allows true focus on the speaker or subject and or for use of avoiding distractions or background noises.
