at City of Dover in Dover, Delaware, United States Job Description The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Arborist in the Parks and Recreation Department. The primary duties of this position are to maintain City property to provide adequate clearance of the utility right-of-way by tree trimming and tree removal, also is responsible for the care, maintenance, and safety of trees and woody plants. This position performs skilled arboricultural work including pruning, removals, planting, and storm response. The Arborist works outdoors in all weather conditions and operates equipment while following safety standards. Job Responsibilities Prune, trim, and remove trees using proper arboricultural techniques Operation of bucket trucks Diagnosing tree health issues including diseases and structural defects Preform tree planting, staking, mulching, and watering Respond to storm damage and emergency tree hazards at all hours of the day and night Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe working conditions Exposed to extreme heat, cold as well and types of inclement weather Communicate clearly with supervisors, crew members, and the public Emergency response during storms may be required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Know tree species and proper pruning methods Ability to work at heights and perform physically demanding tasks Ability to operate chain saws safely Strong understanding of job site safety Skill in operating and maintaining arboricultural equipment Ability to work at heights Ability to lift 50-75lbs Working Conditions Outdoor Work in all weather conditions Exposure to noise, machinery, heights, and traffic To view full details and how to apply, please login or create a Job Seeker account
