The New Mexico Department of Wildlife is currently recruiting for the Chama Supervisory District Corporal for Field Operations. This position is required to handle all district officer responsibilities in the assigned district. The position is required to be a field training officer and handle all tasks associated with training new recruits. This individual must maintain a DPS certified police instructor-ship, handle all the purchasing required in the assigned supervisory district, review all ISTE documents, and act as the supervisory district sergeant when appointed. This position is supervised by the supervisory district sergeant. How does it get done?

Major job tasks will include:

FTO RESPONSIBILITES AS ASSIGNED/BIENNIUM TRAINING OFFICER/PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST FOR SUPERVISORY DISTRICT/ EVIDENCE CUSTODIAN / ACTING SUPERVISORY FOR DISTRICT DURING TIMES WHEN ASSIGNED BY SERGEANT

As assigned to conduct, coordinate and supervise a professional training program for newly hired employees to ensure they are prepared for District assignment, emphasizing all aspects of Law Enforcement. To become and general police instructor and as assigned conduct mandatory DPS biennium training to officers within supervisory district to meet state mandates. To review for correctness ISTE forms for supervisory district personnel prior to submittal. As assigned by supervisor to procure goods and services for the supervisory district following all DFA and NMDOW guidelines and procedures. As assigned by supervisor consolidate and maintain the supervisory district evidence log and room. At times when assigned by the sergeant is the acting supervisor in charge of that district in his absence.

LAW ENFORCEMENT / COMPLIANCE

Implement and contribute to a professional law enforcement program that gains compliance with wildlife laws, OHV laws and State Game Commission rules.

WILDLIFE AND HABITAT MANAGEMENT

Contribute to the effective management of fish, wildlife and their habitats within the respective district, supervisory area and division area.

WILDLIFE COMPLAINT / DEPREDATION

Contribute to a professional and effective depredation and nuisance wildlife abatement program that provides relief to landowners and other affected citizens from property damage, nuisance and threats to public safety.

ADMINISTRATION

Conduct and participate in administrative duties to meet agency needs mandates and directives. Who are the customers? This position serves for the safety of the public in New Mexico as well as hunters, anglers, trappers and Off-Highway users. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field with at least twelve (12) credit hours that pertain to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification; and two (2) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management, or wildlife law enforcement. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be a certified NM peace officer and have successfully completed the NMDGF Conservation School. Employment Requirements Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess Police Officer Certification. Must possess NM Department of Wildlife recruit school certificate. Working Conditions Irregular hours, overtime, travel and overnight trips. Weekend and occasional holiday work. The job requires working outdoors, often in inclement weather. Some work may be performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Occasionally, work is performed in an office environment, with extensive telephone and computer usage, but will typically include outdoor work in inclement weather and during irregular hours, weekends or holidays. Office work will include sitting, standing, bending and lifting 10-25 pounds. Outdoor work will include standing, walking, running, bending and lifting 10-100 pounds. Potential exists for physical conflicts in law enforcement situations involving arrests and controlling criminal subjects requiring physical fitness and stamina. Requirements will include frequent operation and travel in a motor vehicle, and may occasionally include OHV operation, horseback riding, watercraft operation and aircraft travel.
