Horticulturist The Estancia Club | North Scottsdale, Arizona The Estancia Club is seeking an experienced Horticulturist to oversee the care, maintenance, and continued development of the club's ornamental landscape areas. This is a salaried, full-time position for an individual who takes pride in exceptional landscapes and has the knowledge and experience to maintain plant material at a high standard. The Horticulturist will be responsible for the landscaped areas surrounding the clubhouse, golf course comfort stations, and other designated areas throughout the property. This position will play an important role in maintaining the appearance and character of the club while helping develop and improve its landscape over time. We are looking for someone with a strong horticultural foundation, practical experience in the landscape industry, and a genuine interest in plants. Experience with desert-adapted plants and landscaping in the Arizona climate is highly desirable. Responsibilities Take ownership of the day-to-day horticultural care of the clubhouse grounds and golf course comfort station landscapes. Maintain a consistently high standard of appearance throughout all assigned landscape areas. Identify plant health issues and determine appropriate solutions involving irrigation, nutrition, pests, disease, pruning, and environmental stress. Perform planting, transplanting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and general landscape maintenance. Maintain and troubleshoot drip irrigation systems, including valves, filters, pressure regulators, emitters, and distribution lines. Assist with irrigation scheduling and water management with an emphasis on plant health and responsible water use. Select appropriate plant material based on location, exposure, soil conditions, water requirements, aesthetics, and long-term performance. Assist with the development and implementation of new landscape designs and renovation projects. Read landscape plans and accurately lay out new plantings and landscape improvements. Make recommendations regarding plant replacements, additions, pruning strategies, and landscape improvements. Maintain landscape beds to a high horticultural standard, including weed control, soil preparation, amendments, and mulching. Maintain trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, and other landscape plant material. Monitor seasonal changes and adjust horticultural practices accordingly. Assist in maintaining the club's landscape presentation for member events, tournaments, and other special occasions. Safely operate and maintain horticultural equipment, irrigation tools, and hand tools. Maintain accurate organization of tools, materials, and horticultural supplies. Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and grounds team to coordinate landscape maintenance and improvement projects. Help establish and maintain horticultural standards and best practices for the property. Perform other duties and special projects as needed. QualificationsRequired Previous professional experience in horticulture, landscape maintenance, landscape management, or a related field. Strong practical knowledge of plant identification and plant care. Proficiency with drip irrigation installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Strong understanding of proper planting and pruning techniques. Understanding of basic landscape design, layout, and plant spacing. Ability to recognize and diagnose common plant health problems. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality landscapes. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative. Ability to work effectively as part of a professional grounds team. Valid driver's license. Ability to work outdoors in the Arizona climate. Preferred Formal education, degree, certificate, or coursework in Horticulture, Landscape Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field. Experience with desert-adapted and native Arizona plant material. Experience working in the Arizona landscape industry. Experience at a private club, golf course, resort, botanical garden, or high-end landscape property. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience reading landscape plans and implementing landscape designs. Experience with irrigation repair and water management. Knowledge of Arizona soils, water conservation, and desert horticultural practices. What We're Looking For The right candidate will be more than someone who simply completes a daily maintenance list.
