HAND JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the school principal or designee (or under the general supervision of a certificated employee), performs duties related to the operation of a small, diversified farm such as; cares for and feeds farm animals; maintains farm equipment and facilities; and performs related work as required.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES 1.

Irrigates pastures; repairs, installs and sets up plumbing and irrigation systems. 2. Feeds and waters farm animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, ducks, horses and chickens and keeps records of food used. 3. Cleans and disinfects pens, stalls, and poultry coops, including floors and drinking areas. 4. Inspects animals for general physical condition and reports any concerns to administrator. 5. Performs tractor work in the maintenance of the farm operation. 6. Performs minor construction of farm building and other structures such as building and setting up temporary and permanent animal and poultry shelters and feed bins at school. 7. Performs minor repair and maintenance of building, machinery and equipment systems such as repairing cages and enclosures. 8. Secures and checks buildings. 9. Directs and supervises the movement of students, staff and other visitors through the animal pens. 10. Operates District vehicles. 11. Assists in the care and treatment of students' animal projects. 12. Requisitions supplies, feed, and animals as needed. 13. Performs related work as required.

• Basic farm work relating to routine maintenance of building, and caring for farm animals;
• Habits, deseases, and food and water needs of farm animals and wildlife;
• Proper methods of handling a variety of animals;
• The Calexico FFA Animal project and program;
• Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

ABILITY TO

• Read and understand the schedule and procedures relating to the operation of a farm school and the use of equipment, supplies and planting used in its operation;
• Apply modern farming methods and principles to diversified farming;
• Handle, move, and/or transport all types of animals safely;
• Recognize symptoms of diseases of farm animals and wildlife;
• Use small hand tools and animal maintenance equipment to make minor, non-technical repairs;
• Perform heavy manual labor;
• Keep records and prepare simple reports.
• Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive, driving practices;
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

: Training and experience in the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above as well as general farming experience, including dairy operations, care of livestock, and farming procedures. Prior experience with the Calexico Agriculture Program Preferred.

• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various farm and hand tools and equipment:
• Standing for extended periods of time;
• Bending at the waist;
• Safely lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds;
• Safely carry, push or pull items up to 100 pounds;
• Digging;
• Walking over rough or uneven surfaces;
• This position requires accurate distinguishing of sound, near and far;
• Vision, depth perception;
