Job Overview The Gardener plays a critical role in providing on-going high-level and detailed horticultural expertise to residential, commercial and community client properties, including management of naturalized areas, and production kitchen gardens, along with detailed fine pruning, management of perennials and flower beds. Installing and maintaining container displays, assisting with seasonal and holiday décor, working closely with leaders and assisting in mentoring team members, ensuring optimal health and aesthetics for all plant materials with the goal of ensuring client expectations are met. Responsibilities and Duties Nurturing all types of different plant materials, including flowers, shrubs and trees Demonstrate proactive ownership of the client properties, anticipating needs before they arise. Ensure every detail—edges, lines, plant health, symmetry, and cleanliness—is executed to perfection. Develop and implement weekly, monthly, and seasonal maintenance plans. Maintain high standards of client property presentation and cleanliness. Communicate effectively with Client Reps and other team members, including clients at times to ensure highest expectations are met. Identify issues and recommend appropriate steps to all client concerns Maintaining the optimal health of plant materials by watering, fertilizing, pruning, dead heading and trimming Using and maintaining gardening tools and light gardening machinery Identify and treat diseases, along with other issues with garden plants Maintain greenhouses and client environments where plants are living Collect specimens of plants, mosses, and fungi for research Identify and diagnose pest and plant diseases, ensuring environmental conditions are healthy. Performing edging, weeding, fertilizing, mulching and other services as needed. Maintain complete discretion regarding the estate, owners, guests, and property operations. Monitor inventory of supplies and place orders as needed. Comply with safety and environmental regulations at all times, including safety protocols for chemical usage. Ability to work well under pressure in an ever-changing environment. Job Requirements A BS Degree in Horticulture or related field, or 5+ years of experience in a horticulture related role required Strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, and general plant care required. Advanced pruning and shaping skills. Proven ability to mentor and guide team members. Highly effective communication skills. High attention to detail and ability to interpret design plans and layouts. Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, bending, kneeling and standing for long periods Comfortable enduring variable outdoor weather elements. Understanding of irrigation systems desired. Valid driver's license required; ability to drive company vehicles. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus. Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
