Summary:
At North Dakota Grain Inspection (NDGI), we are committed to delivering precise and reliable inspection services for agricultural commodities. NDGI's Grain Sampler/Technician position entails going out to elevator and container sites throughout typically within a 100-mile radius of our Whitmore Lake, Michigan office. Samplers will obtain representative samples of grain and other commodities, while maintaining accurate work records by writing down the carrier IDs and various quality measures. Maintaining accurate work records is a crucial piece of this position. Employees start their shift at the Whitmore Lake, MI office and take a company vehicle out to customer sites, therefore getting paid for drive time to and from the customer sites. This is a non-traditional, variable-hour position suited for people who enjoy irregular hours, being outdoors, and earning more for flexibility. While this position generally offers full-time-type hours, the schedule varies based on customer needs and 40 hours per week is not guaranteed. Schedules are typically determined for each shift the day prior, so employees must have flexibility in their availability. There are also opportunities for extended shifts and overtime, particularly during busier periods and harvest. Starting wage is $17.00 an hour (base rate) ; however, service request hours worked outside of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday , and service request hours worked on Saturdays , are paid at 1.5x the base rate ($25.50/hour) . Service request hours worked on Sundays are paid at double time ($34.00/hour) .
Key Responsibilities:
Collect representative samples following specific procedures Maintain accurate work records with legible handwriting Follow USDA procedures as trained Be punctual and consistent with work Can move into technician function over time which would involve running grain through testing equipment
Requirements:
Ability to bend/lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to climb 20' ladders Be moving through entirety of shift Ability to work 12+ Hour shifts often, especially during harvest Work variable hours and shifts depending on needs of customers Comfortability with heights on top of railcars (with fall protection) Be able to physically handle working in grain dust environments Must have a valid driver's license No experience is required! All training is provided on the job and through training materials. A USDA license will be obtained withing 30 days after your hire date, however, all testing is done online right in our office!
