Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Viticulturist that is highly driven and resourceful to join our team at TerraVox Winery. This role entails comprehensive management of vineyard operations and active support in winemaking processes, particularly during the harvest season and bottling. This individual must be highly organized, adaptable and able to prioritize competing demands while maintaining a high standard of quality and efficiency. TerraVox is a 100% estate-grown vineyard and winery nestled in the heart of the Midwest, with a strong dedication to cultivating and reviving the great possibilities of Native North American Grape Varieties. We focus on producing award-winning, food-friendly, fine wines.
Key Responsibilities:
Vineyard Tasks and Administration:
Schedule and oversee vineyard tasks including pruning, canopy management, netting, spraying, irrigation, propagation, etc. Record and maintain data logs for all vineyard conditions and activities. Initiate and implement and manage sustainable programs re: pest management, ground cover and weed control. Order materials and supplies like chemicals, PPE, tools, etc. Manage spraying schedules and alerts. Manage cuttings sales. Conduct regular vine condition checks and berry, soil and tissue sampling. Coordinate the harvest process. Maintain vineyard infrastructure, such as fence and trellis repairs, equipment maintenance and overall appearance of the property. Must be able to operate a tractor and other various vineyard equipment.
Winemaking Assistance:
Collect samples for winemaking analysis prior to harvest. Participate in crush pad activities including grape processing and equipment cleaning.
Bottling Support:
Support the bottling process including preparation, logistical support, execution, and cleanup.
Qualifications:
Degree/credited certification in Viticulture, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred but not required . 2-4 years of experience in vineyard, farm or land management, with an interest or background in winemaking is preferred. Proficient in viticulture and basic winemaking procedures (Ongoing training provided) Strong organizational, leadership, and data management skills. Physical ability to work in various conditions and perform demanding tasks, including tractor, mower, and spray application operations. Excellent communication skills and team management capabilities. Bi-lingual is preferred but not a requirement.
