, operating as Rogue River-Siskiyou Recreation Services (RRSRS) , is seeking an experienced, hands-on Area Manager to lead our campground and recreation operations on the High Cascades Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in southwestern Oregon. This position is paid year round with primary workload from April through the middle of November. The Area Manager will serve as RRSRS' primary on-site representative and Administrative Agent for the U.S. Forest Service Special Use Permit. This is a significant management position with responsibility for the successful operation, maintenance, staffing, financial oversight, and visitor experience of multiple developed recreation sites. The successful candidate will live within or near the managed recreation area and work closely with RRSRS corporate management, campground staff, hosts, vendors, and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) . This is a hands-on field management position . We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable meeting with Forest Service officials, managing employees and budgets, inspecting a campground, responding to an emergency, resolving a visitor concern, or helping the field team solve an operational problem. Our Recreation Area The High Cascades Ranger District is located in southwestern Oregon near the communities of Butte Falls and Prospect , west of the Cascade Mountain Range. Its eastern boundary extends into the Sky Lakes Wilderness and along the boundary of Crater Lake National Park. The area is known for the Rogue River, towering forests, mountain scenery, and outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities . Elevations range from approximately 2,700 feet in the lower forest to more than 9,600 feet at Mt. McLoughlin. Summer is the primary recreation season, with visitors coming to the area for camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking, sightseeing along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, horseback riding, OHV recreation, hunting, and mushroom and berry picking. RRSRS operations include the following developed recreation sites: Doe Point

  • Campground The Area Manager will have management responsibility across this entire network of recreation facilities.
Position Overview The Area Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of RRSRS operations within the High Cascades Ranger District and serves as the company's principal liaison with the U.S. Forest Service. The position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, organizational ability, financial awareness, and the ability to manage a geographically dispersed outdoor recreation operation. The Area Manager has direct accountability for personnel, training, customer service, facility maintenance, equipment, purchasing, financial controls, safety, regulatory compliance, and government relations . This position reports directly to RRSRS regional and corporate management and works closely with the USFS Special Use Permit Administrator and other Forest Service personnel. Key Responsibilities Operations & Contract Management Oversee the daily operation of all assigned campgrounds, day-use areas, and interpretive sites and ensure that facilities are operated in accordance with the Special Use Permit, approved Annual Operating Plan, company policies, and applicable government requirements. Conduct regular field inspections and site visits throughout the High Cascades Ranger District to ensure facilities are clean, safe, properly maintained, adequately staffed, and providing a high-quality visitor experience. Identify operational deficiencies and ensure corrective action is taken promptly. Government & Agency Relations Serve as the primary liaison between RRSRS and the U.S. Forest Service . Maintain professional and productive working relationships with Forest Service personnel and communicate regularly regarding operations, maintenance, safety, visitor concerns, emergencies, and other matters affecting the concession. Keep corporate management informed of significant agency communications, operational developments, and potential contractual issues. Personnel Management Recruit, train, supervise, support, and evaluate campground managers, hosts, maintenance personnel, and other seasonal employees. Ensure employees understand company policies, customer-service expectations, safety requirements, and the operational requirements of the Special Use Permit. Provide leadership and support to field personnel and step in when necessary to keep operations running effectively. Develop work schedules and staffing plans appropriate to visitation levels and operational requirements, including weekends, holidays, and peak recreation periods. Customer Service Promote a culture of courteous, professional, and responsive visitor service throughout all RRSRS-managed facilities. Respond promptly to visitor concerns, complaints, incidents, and unusual situations and take appropriate action to resolve problems. Represent RRSRS professionally when interacting with visitors, community members, agency personnel, vendors, and business partners. Maintenance & Facility Management Oversee campground and recreation-site maintenance, including restrooms, campsites, picnic areas, roads, trails, signs, fee stations, grounds, water systems, waste management, vegetation management, and other developed recreation infrastructure. Coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, purchasing, contractors, equipment, and supplies. Ensure required inspections are completed and that identified safety or maintenance deficiencies are documented and corrected. Safety & Emergency Management Maintain a strong safety culture throughout the operation. Ensure employees understand emergency procedures and are prepared to respond appropriately to accidents, wildfires, severe weather, hazardous trees, wildlife incidents, law-enforcement situations, utility failures, and other emergencies associated with operating recreation facilities in a National Forest environment. Communicate significant incidents promptly to corporate management and the appropriate government agencies. Financial & Administrative Management Assist with annual operating budgets, purchasing, procurement, equipment planning, payroll and personnel administration, and financial controls. Monitor operational expenses and assist corporate management in controlling costs while maintaining required service and maintenance standards. Ensure accurate and timely completion of operational reports, records, inspections, personnel documentation, and other required administrative materials. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing a campground, recreation area, hospitality operation, concession, park, resort, public facility, or other geographically dispersed operation .
Candidates should possess:
Strong leadership and personnel-management skills. Experience supervising seasonal and/or geographically dispersed employees. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic bookkeeping, budgeting, purchasing, and administrative experience. Computer proficiency and the ability to maintain accurate electronic records. Experience working with government agencies or government contracts is highly desirable. Knowledge of facility maintenance and grounds operations. Ability to interpret and implement operating plans, policies, regulations, and contractual requirements. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions without constant supervision. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability and willingness to travel regularly between recreation sites. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when operational conditions require it. Experience with U.S. Forest Service campground concessions, National Forest recreation operations, state or federal parks, or similar public recreation facilities is especially desirable. What We're Looking For We are looking for a manager who takes ownership of the operation . The right person will not simply identify a problem and pass it along to someone else. They will assess the situation, determine what needs to happen, communicate appropriately, and see the issue through to completion. This position requires someone who can balance people, facilities, finances, customer service, government relations, and field operations while maintaining a professional and positive working environment. You should enjoy being outdoors, working with people, solving problems, and managing an operation where every day can present something different. Working Conditions This position involves frequent travel between recreation sites throughout the High Cascades Ranger District. A company vehicle will be provided , with gas card and company credit card for expenses incurred. The Area Manager must provide their own living accommodation; however, an RV site, with full utility hookups, Starlink internet will be provided at the Union Creek Campground . The position requires significant time outdoors and may involve walking over uneven terrain, inspecting facilities and infrastructure, working in changing weather conditions, and responding to operational issues throughout the recreation area. The Area Manager must be available during weekends, holidays, and peak visitor periods , particularly during the primary May 1-through-October 15 recreation season. Because continuity and long-term relationships with our employees, visitors, and Forest Service partners are important to the success of this operation, RRSRS is seeking candidates willing to make a minimum two-year commitment to the position. Compensation Compensation is individually negotiated and will reflect the candidate's experience, qualifications, and the scope and responsibility of the position. About BA Services, Inc.
