Agency Dept of Administration Division Job Classification Title Grounds Supervisor I (S) Position Number 60014841 Grade NC05 About Us The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction, purchasing and contracting for goods and services, maintaining facilities, managing state vehicles, acquiring and disposing of real property, and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally, the department manages many of the state's advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the state's population that have been traditionally underserved. Description of Work The North Carolina Department of Administration Facility Management Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled Grounds Supervisor I responsible for development and landscape maintenance of grounds, to include planning work efforts, assigning staff, and reviewing work. This position will not have any direct reports, but at times will be required to supervise full-time employees, temporary employees, and inmate workers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to plan and manage the work.
- Preparing for and planting shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns.
- Installing hardened landscape structures.
- Implementing scheduled landscape maintenance.
- Diagnosing diseased shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns and taking remedial action.
- Assisting in repair of landscape equipment.
- Maintaining beds including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying of plant material.
- Requires the use of special tools for cultivation, maintenance and transportation of plants and repair of landscape equipment.
- Applying chemicals and water to plants, turf, or plant collection.
