$27.00 - $29.00 per hour (DOE) Snow operations: Winter participation required This is a hands-on field position for someone who is highly skilled with an excavator and understands how excavation, grading, drainage, base preparation, planting, and overall site conditions come together. The excavator will be your primary piece of equipment. We are looking for someone who can do more than operate the machine. You should be able to look at a job site, understand what needs to happen, recognize problems early, and prepare the site properly for the crews that follow. You'll work on residential landscape projects throughout the Pocono Region and may lead and work alongside up to two additional crew members when needed. What You'll Do Operate an excavator as your primary piece of equipment Complete excavation, grading, drainage, and site-preparation work Establish and maintain proper grades and elevations Install drainage and help troubleshoot drainage issues Prepare aggregate bases through placement, grading, and compaction Operate skid steers, mini skid steers, compactors, and related attachments as needed Prepare sites for planting, landscape enhancements, and construction Support the hardscape crew with excavation, drainage, grading, base preparation, and site work Plant trees and assist with larger landscape installation projects Work carefully around homes, utilities, existing landscapes, and completed improvements Recognize soil, drainage, grade, access, and material concerns before they become larger problems Protect customer property, equipment, materials, and completed work Perform routine equipment care and report maintenance or repair concerns Lead and work alongside up to two additional crew members when needed Keep jobsites safe, clean, organized, and ready for the next phase Communicate clearly with the Operations Manager and field team What We're Looking For We're looking for someone with strong equipment skills, practical field experience, and good judgment.The right person should understand:
How much to excavate and where How to establish and maintain proper grades How water moves across and through a property How drainage should be installed and protected How soil and site conditions affect the work How to place, grade, and compact aggregate base materials How to work carefully around structures, utilities, existing landscaping, and finished areas How your work affects the crews and phases that follow When something doesn't look right and needs to be addressed before continuing You should be able to think ahead, work independently, and communicate when you need direction or see a potential problem. Qualifications Strong, proven excavator experience Experience with excavation, grading, drainage, or site preparation Comfortable operating skid steers, mini skid steers, compactors, and other equipment Experience in landscape construction, excavation, sitework, or related construction Understanding of base preparation and compaction Ability to recognize quality workmanship Good field judgment and attention to detail Dependable and consistent throughout the workday Able to work independently while being part of a team Professional and receptive to feedback with a proven track record of rapid skill acquisition Ability and openness to using current landscape apps on mobile device to complete field updates and material requests. Able to lead and direct a small crew when needed Willing to participate in winter snow operations Additional Experience We Value Experience in any of the following is a strong plus: Drainage installation and troubleshooting Tree planting and larger landscape installation projects Preparing sites for planting and landscape enhancements Aggregate base installation and compaction Supporting hardscape construction through excavation and site preparation Small concrete work, such as pads or similar flatwork Using equipment attachments Basic equipment maintenance and care Working from plans, elevations, grades, or construction layouts Leading a small field crew You do not need to have every skill listed above. Strong excavator skills, good field judgment, dependability, and a willingness to learn are the most important. Winter Work and Snow Operations This is a year-round position, but landscape construction is seasonal. During periods of snow, frozen ground, or unsuitable winter conditions, excavation and landscape construction work will generally pause. Dependability during scheduled snow events is an important part of this position. During the winter, our crews stay active by supporting Erb's Landscaping snow operations.Winter responsibilities may include:
Operating assigned snow-removal equipment Preparing and organizing equipment before storms Inspecting and caring for equipment before, during, and after snow events Helping maintain safe access to customer properties Communicating equipment problems and changing site conditions Working scheduled snow events, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays when needed Landscape construction work may resume during occasional warm-weather periods when site conditions allow, but snow operations are the primary winter focus.
