Position Summary The Groundsman/Laborer supports installation crews by helping maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. This position assists with material and tool preparation, protects tenant property, performs jobsite cleaning and housekeeping, and supports installers throughout daily operations. The Groundsman/Laborer also plays an important role in jobsite safety by serving as a spotter, setting up safety controls, identifying potential hazards, and maintaining awareness of surrounding activities. This is an entry-level position well suited for someone who is dependable, safety-conscious, hardworking, and interested in gaining hands-on construction experience. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Maintain constant awareness of surroundings to ensure personal safety and the safety of team members. Use cones, caution tape, and other safety controls to establish and maintain safe work zones when work is being performed. Actively watch out for teammates when equipment or materials are being moved and communicate using call-outs and hand signals as needed. Serve as a spotter for installers when equipment, lifts, ladders, or materials are being used or moved. Ensure work areas remain safe and free of hazards throughout the workday. Always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow company safety procedures. Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation while supporting installers and other crew members. Follow company standards for professionalism while working in tenant-occupied spaces. Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times. Sweep, vacuum, and mop work areas as needed to prevent debris buildup and maintain a professional workspace. Notify individuals nearby and cone off wet areas when mopping to prevent slip hazards. Clean tools, equipment, and materials regularly during the workday. Ensure lifts and equipment are cleaned out at the end of every shift, removing wood shavings, tools, and debris. Protect tenant workspaces by covering materials with plastic and installing floor protection such as plastic or drop cloths to prevent damage during work. Assist installers by preparing and organizing materials and ensuring all required hardware is available for each task. Assist with preparing materials prior to installation, including cutting threaded rod, lumber, or other components. Prepare steel components by cleaning, scraping, or grinding surfaces when required. Assist with painting steel when necessary. Ensure installers' carts or baskets are stocked with the proper tools required for each task. Confirm tools and equipment are clean, organized, and in proper working condition. Tag out damaged tools and notify the Foreman when equipment requires repair or maintenance. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality. Perform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not supervise staff Required Qualifications Entry-level position; previous experience in construction, general labor, warehouse operations, installation, or a similar hands-on work environment is preferred but not required. Experience working around construction equipment, ladders, lifts, or power tools is a plus. Basic familiarity with construction tools, materials, and jobsite safety practices is helpful. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Required Skills & Abilities Strong situational awareness and ability to recognize potential safety hazards in an active work environment. Ability to communicate clearly with team members using verbal communication, call-outs, and hand signals when necessary. Strong attention to detail when maintaining jobsite cleanliness, organizing materials, and preparing tools or hardware. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew. Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance. Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving materials and equipment and performing general jobsite cleanup. Safety Expectations Wear and properly maintain required PPE, including: Steel-toe boots Safety vest Hard hat Safety glasses Use fall protection equipment when performing elevated work Act as or work with a spotter to identify and address jobsite hazards Follow all safety rules, procedures, and training requirements at all times Work Environment Indoor and Outdoor construction settings Moderate to loud noise levels Routine exposure to dust, fumes, weather conditions, and construction-related hazards Work may involve uneven or slippery surfaces, overhead work, tall ladders, and proximity to moving or powered equipment Physical Demands Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 50 pounds Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing Ability to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and lift equipment Ability to perform overhead work and repetitive hand and arm movements Sufficient vision, hearing, and coordination to safely operate tools in a construction environment
