Job Description
Garden Center & Floral Associate — Moscarillo's Garden Shoppe (Torrington, CT) Full-time preferred (open to 32 hrs/week) • A weekend day is required About Us Moscarillo's Garden Shoppe is a family-owned garden center, florist, and landscaping business serving Connecticut since 1933, with locations in Torrington and West Hartford. We grow much of what we sell, and our reputation is built on healthy plants, beautiful flowers, and people who know their stuff. We're looking for a Garden Center & Floral Associate for our Torrington location. Job Summary This is a role for someone who loves plants and people in equal measure. You'll split your time between our garden center sales floor — helping customers find the right plants and sending them home with the know-how to keep them thriving — and our floral department, where you'll help prepare bouquets, arrangements, and seasonal displays. No two days look quite the same: spring annuals season, fall mums, holiday poinsettias, and everything in between. Floral experience is welcome but not required — if you have the eye and the enthusiasm, we'll teach you the rest. Responsibilities Welcome customers, answer questions, and offer honest, helpful advice on plant selection and care Help shoppers identify plants and choose the right ones for their space, light, and experience level Keep displays fresh and full — stocking, merchandising, and rotating garden and floral products through the seasons Assist in the floral department with arranging bouquets, prepping flowers, and building seasonal and holiday displays Ring up sales accurately at the register, including cash handling and phone orders Water and care for plants on the sales floor and help with general upkeep of the garden center, indoors and out Keep an eye on inventory and let management know when products are running low Help with online and phone orders, including floral orders for delivery and pickup Keep the shop clean, safe, and welcoming for every customer who walks in Qualifications A love of plants and flowers — retail, gardening, or floral experience is a plus, but enthusiasm and willingness to learn matter most Some knowledge of plants and their care, or a strong interest in building it (we're happy to teach) Friendly, patient customer service skills; comfortable talking with everyone from first-time plant owners to master gardeners Comfort with a register/POS system and basic retail math, or the ability to learn quickly Ability to lift plants and supplies, stay on your feet, and work outdoors in varying weather An eye for keeping displays and workspaces tidy and appealing Availability to work at least one weekend day — weekends are our busiest and best time Team player with good communication, in person and on the phone Join Us If you'd like to spend your workday surrounded by plants and flowers — and help customers fall in love with them too — we'd love to meet you.
