In this energetic role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing a variety of landscapes, ensuring they are vibrant, healthy, and visually stunning. Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor, you will assist in maintaining the Museum's gardens, landscapes, grounds, and outdoor facilities to the highest standards. This position performs a variety of horticultural, landscaping, irrigation, and grounds maintenance duties to help provide a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for Museum guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors. The Landscape Technician works both independently and as part of a team while supporting seasonal projects, special events, and the ongoing care of the Museum's outdoor spaces. Duties Assist with the installation, maintenance, and care of gardens, landscaped areas, lawns, trees, shrubs, and seasonal plantings. Perform routine horticultural tasks including planting, transplanting, mulching, watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, and deadheading. Assist with the maintenance of specialty landscape features, including living walls, irrigation systems, and other ornamental plantings. Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, hand tools, and power equipment safely and efficiently. Assist with seasonal landscape projects, new landscape installations, and special event preparation. Monitor landscape conditions and report irrigation issues, plant health concerns, pest activity, equipment problems, or maintenance needs to the Grounds Supervisor. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, equipment, tools, and storage facilities. Perform general grounds maintenance, including litter removal, leaf collection, walkway maintenance, and upkeep of outdoor public spaces. Collaborate with the Grounds Supervisor and other Museum departments to complete assigned projects and support Museum operations. Follow established safety procedures and properly use equipment, tools, chemicals, fertilizers, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, plant care, irrigation, and grounds maintenance practices. Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and power tools or willingness to be trained. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality grounds and landscaped areas. Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to learn new skills. Ability to prioritize work assignments and adapt to changing operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a related field preferred but not required. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to work occasional weekends, holidays, or special events as departmental needs require. Successful completion of the Museum's required background screening process. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, cold, uneven terrain, dust, pollen, insects, and noise associated with landscaping equipment. Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns and follow Museum safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
