Position Overview Responsible for the cultivation, maintenance, and overall care of landscaping, grounds, and cemetery areas surrounding municipal buildings and facilities. Duties include planting and maintaining flowers and other vegetation, mowing and trimming lawns, removing weeds and debris, maintaining landscaping, repairing and maintaining outdoor structures, and ensuring the exterior grounds and surrounding areas remain clean, safe, attractive, and well-maintained. Schedule Full-time position with regular hours. Requires 2-hour weekend shifts every other Saturday and Sunday for groundwater well and wastewater plant evaluations. On-call availability for emergencies, including major water breaks or system failures. Occasional holiday work for inspections and emergency response. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general groundskeeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and maintenance of City property and facilities.
- Mow and maintain lawns using hand mowers, riding lawnmowers, weed eaters, and other appropriate equipment.
- Cut, trim, and edge grass around sidewalks, flower beds, walls, buildings, roads, and other areas as needed.
- Maintain landscaping by planting and caring for flowers, grass, shrubs, bushes, and other vegetation.
- Apply pesticides and other pest-control treatments to control mosquitoes, wasps, ticks, and other pests in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
- Apply fertilizer and other treatments to promote healthy growth and maintain landscaped areas.
- Sweep and remove debris from sidewalks, walkways, roads, and other City property.
- Trim shrubs, remove weeds, rake leaves, mulch, prune trees and plants, and perform other seasonal groundskeeping duties.
- Water plants, grass, and landscaped areas as needed.
- Perform minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and routine servicing of groundskeeping, landscaping, and utility equipment.
- Operate lawnmowers, tractors, excavators, and other heavy equipment as required and as directed by the Water Superintendent.
- Maintain grass and grounds at City Hall, the public library, Veterans Park, the City cemetery, City roads, water and sewer easements, and other City-owned properties as directed.
- Perform general building and grounds maintenance, including cleaning, repairs, upkeep, and other maintenance activities.
- Assist with patching potholes and maintaining City streets and other public areas as needed.
- Operate and supervise prison detail work when required.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures and properly operate and maintain equipment used in the performance of assigned duties.
- Work independently and efficiently while following instructions and priorities established by the Water Superintendent.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Water Superintendent. Additional Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and assist with the operation of pumps, wells, lift stations, booster stations, wastewater ponds, buildings, and related equipment as directed by the Water Superintendent.
- Record daily readings, including well levels, lift station hours, booster station information, and wastewater pond readings when required.
- Read water meters as needed and turn water meters on or off as directed.
Qualifications Required Licenses :
Valid State of Georgia Driver's License.
Analytical Skills :
Strong ability to diagnose problems in water, wastewater, and storm sewer systems and implement effective solutions.
Problem-Solving :
Excellent problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail to ensure high-quality maintenance and repairs.
Communication :
Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members, report findings, and interact with city officials.
Teamwork :
Ability to work effectively within a team setting to achieve departmental goals and maintain a positive work environment. Preferred Licenses (Preferred) : Valid State of Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Equipment Operation :
Proven experience operating heavy machinery, such as backhoes, excavators, or similar equipment, with a focus on safety and precision.
Physical Requirements Physical Requirements :
