SUMMARY:

Performs general labor, maintenance, repair and upkeep work on the District grounds and landscaping, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

: This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Performs grounds maintenance and upkeep for District facilities, including landscaping, athletics fields, and seasonal lawn care and snow removal; performs work within scope of authority and training; duties may vary according to job assignment. Operates common grounds and landscaping maintenance equipment; performs manual labor grounds maintenance tasks. Performs a variety of grounds and landscaping management activities, including fertilizing, weed control, mowing, planting, and watering procedures. Cleans up trash and debris; prunes and trims trees and shrubs; inspects landscaped areas; loads and hauls materials. Assists in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and sprinklers; sweeps and cleans grounds, landscaping and adjacent areas. Maintains athletics fields and prepares for play and special events; grooms field and marks boundaries and technical frames. Picks up and delivers furniture, equipment and supplies in a timely and efficient manner. Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and hand tools for proper operating condition; completes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment as needed. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; reports security issues and illegal activities. Controls ongoing work projects to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition. Responds as required to perform emergency cleaning work. Completes required daily logs and reports. Establishes and maintains positive working relations with fellow workers, supervisors, students, and building staff. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. One (1) year of grounds and facilities maintenance experience. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Driver's license. Specialized certifications related to equipment and tools may be required.

Required Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge:

Materials and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance. Federal and state safety rules and regulations related to duties performed. Occupational hazards and safety precautions. Use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to the work. Basic record keeping practices.

Required Skills:

Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Following and maintaining safety standards; recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the job site and taking appropriate action. Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work. Reading and understanding a variety of plans and maps. Following verbal and written instructions. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. Performing assigned responsibilities in a manner consistent with the District's established Core Values. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed indoors and outdoors at Hopkins facilities; requires constant physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at Hopkins facilities. Travel required to locations throughout the District.
